New JHS Kit Pedal Release Monday

I set all the knobs to noon and placed the notadumb pedal near the front of my signal chain, immediately before the Protein. When set to the low gain channel, it adds a nice little signal boost with some cool high-end sparkle that cuts nicely into a crowded mix.

It pairs nicely when stacked with the Protein green (ODR-1) side and/or the blue (BluesBreaker) side.

The drive channel also stacks well with either side of the Protein, but is a little too much when both the green & blue are engaged.

So far, I kinda like it a lot.

As for assembling the pedal, it took me about 20 minutes fumbling around on my couch in a low-lit living room. More than half of that time was dedicated to installing the 5 knobs and locating 3 of the 5 set screws that wiggled their way out of the knobs during shipping.

I deviated from the instructions by skipping the goop, and flush clipping the longer-than-expected LED legs poking thru the back of the pcb.

My only complaint with it is it’s got a little of that pedal thing with the fizzy artifacts in the decay. Other than that I think it’s great!

It wasn’t the right sound for my shows this week, but I know I’ll have some uses for it in the future.
The fizzy artifacts in the decay sounds like OG BD-2 Blues Driver that had a similar issue. Deal killer for me.

I think Boss may have fixed it in BD-2W but not certain.

Nobody fixed it, but Keeley came close ~ It's part of JFETs' charm :satan

Actually, the only JFET AIAB designs I've found with "acceptable" decay artifacts are some of Brian Menatone's HW creations...

This "problem" also exists with a lot pedals that use the LM386 chip, which most cloners seem to have a *very* hard time tweaking anywhere close to the OG builds :rofl

Gotta love JHS hyping his stuff, he should be nominated for an Oscar with those acting chops & script writing:rofl

I remember years ago when Josh was still *active* on FreeStompBoxes & was already hyping his "excellence", talking crap about classic designs & builders, until he got caught ripping off a bunch of Run Off Groove OG designs (especially the Superbolt, which is ROG Supreaux 💯), without *any* recognition -or- compensation.

Of course, except for a few notable exceptions, the whole boutique pedal "industry" is built on hacks, con artistry & IP theft/appropriation...

If it wasn't for the TGP P&W "pros" schilling his stuff, ol' Josh would never have become the "expert" corp. flimflammer he is today :poop:
