Okay it's in.
Difficult to compare two speakers in the same cabinet, since it takes a dozen of minutes to change one for the other (and of course in a combo, it's difficult not to touch the knobs in the meantime
), and I'm not equipped to record anything properly.
So no direct A/B comparison between the FJ and the Creamback, but I played both the same afternoon and compared each one to my other speakers – C1025 and A1260 – and also to the OX Box Greenback simulations.
Long story short: the C1265GB sounds fantastic. I'd say more open and articulated than the Creamback (if you find difficult to express tones in words, try in foreign language
). As I said, the knobs have moved, but I can definitely feel less woofiness and still some kind of warmth and bite in the same time. Feels like it's closer to the (excellent) simulations I've got on the Ox Box.
Also tried my other amps into the new speaker (thanks to the de Lisle amp selector) and had good results. Again, it felt more "natural" and articulated, less muffled (remember I like the Creamback, the term is for comparison
).
I'm surprised not to notice more jump in volume (100 dB vs 97 dB) but in my situation it's for the better.
I played my Collings I35LC for the main part but had a blast when I plugged my Eastman LP Jr into the Marshall. P90 fit very well with that speaker, it's like they were made for each other.
As you can guess, I think the FJ will stay in that ST20 combo. I already regret that I didn't solder the speaker cable rather than clipped it!
Someone wants a Creamback?
