New Charvel Super Stock

I ordered it before seeing everyone’s posts on tuning issues, and had no experience with these to make me know the mistake I was making! It was back ordered forever, I just got it and it’s likely going back. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, for the 5 minutes an hour it’s in tune!! I have checked and adjusted everything, besides going to work on the tusq nut (which might ruin my ability to return it) and it’s much better, but as some have said can’t breathe on the bar, or bend more than a half -1 step and it’s fubar! If I’m paying $1500 for a stripped down single HB MIM guitar, I at least expect it to stay in tune when i don’t even have the bar installed. I have wanted a San Dimas for 30+ years (and I won’t lie, I did fall for the 80’s striping) Anyone have any suggestions on what I might want to get instead? In the $1-2k range? Or anyone had any success making it work? I read the DK post and am not spending more money to make it a generic FR, instead of just getting one with it. Sorry this is so long, just got it and frustrated!
If you want to go the FR route, check out the Warren DeMartini or the Satchel models.

I have one of the pink ones. Its not bad tuning-wise, I've played through full band practices and didn't have to fuss with it too too much. I could gig it.

I found that lubing the nut and the knives on the trem with something like white lithium grease helped a lot. Also ensuring the string slots are properly sized at the nut.

These guitars are awesome to play though. The pink one is like a mini Guthrie Govan sig. Very similar specs.

I have two Charvel Dinkys and love them both. Sorry you are having such an hard time with the tuning issues.

I have had the opposite sort of thing where I am shocked and amazed they stay in tune so well. I am very meticulous
about my setup, though, and am able to dial most things into my liking.

Lubing the nut is vital--as is how you wind/wrap your strings on the locking tuners.

@Eagle is an indispensable resource here on issues like this. He may be able to offer some insights.

Good luck! :beer

Honestly after just getting some pencil lead in the nut, it is seeming a bit better. I ordered a really good graphite and moly lube I used to use on my Yamaha Rgx612A and another set of strings because I use a lighter set on all my others (and right now I don’t want to cause more issues until I get her worked out) I’m also going to have a friend that a luthier see what’s what with the nut, as the slots seem awful tight compared to the tusq that I had put on my old Aria ProII. I absolutely love everything else about the guitar and can’t stop playing it even with the tuning issues. So I decided to keep it and figure it out one way or another!! Thanks for the responses guys, I’m new here and was surprised by how fast people responded! It is appreciated!!

Yours are also non Floyd’s? Because any of my guitars with the FR, you can drag for miles behind your car and they will still be in tune!! 🤣

Haha! Yup. Both have the Gotoh 510 setup.

I have grown to kind of like them. :idk
