I really don’t want the main QC. I don’t even really want the Mini, but in a few years time when they’re going cheap, I’d probably take a punt on one (especially if there is no Cortex plugin by then). I did a similar thing with the HX stomp - it’s small enough that I can find some kind of use for it and it lets me into the ecosystem.
If I didn’t already have the AxeFX, the AM4 would be a similar proposition. The FM9 and FM3 are too big and bulky to be a multipurpose problem solver in the way smaller units can be.
It’s almost like a “pro” HX stomp (in that it doesn’t have the compromises of the flagship unit). And if L6 had a “pro” version of the stomp (say with capturing, I/O, max DSP power) I’d probably pay a bit more over a base model for something as powerful as their flagship. I wonder if any of the inclusions here will influence what the Stadium Stomp gets (I’m guessing more on the SW side as it’s probably deep into its development already). It may influence customer expectations though.
I find the HX stomp great as a little problem solver. If it had decent capture tech, wireless+cloud syncing and updates, more power, better reverbs and all the latest models I’d be pretty stoked. Touchscreen is not essential for me (I’d be happy with an app), but if it makes updates and parity across units, I don’t mind.
I personally like this more than the original QC. And I like that it’s not a weaker model. Even though it’s relatively small, it’s still bigger than I want it to be, and more akin to a floorboard modeler (even if it’s compact).
