NDSP Quad Cortex

Pickups and guitars are huge factors. I spent years trying to make a silhouette sound like an Axis. In the end, I have no patience for dead wood...
What did you not like about the Silo? It’s probably the guitar I grab most. I think the pickups are a bit wimpy, and I’ve considered many times what changes might be an improvement, but it’s still a fine guitar, IMHO. Do you think you had a less than stellar example?

My Axis has P90s in it, so I don’t quite have a reference there. My Albert Lee HH has (I believe) Axis pickups. I would say they’re a bit thiccer compared the the Silo, but the Silo is also a smaller/lighter guitar, so that’s a contributing factor as well.

Can of worms open....
I think the Silo is the most comfortable guitar body on the planet.
However, I prefer the neck on the axis.
I'm a bit of an ebmm nut.
I have an assortment. I have learned to accept guitars for what they are and not to try to make them into something else. Don't get me wrong, within the reason a guitar can be modded slightly. The silos I have had have all been warm with lower sustain. (Even with about 20 different pickup trials)
Even with the Axis guitars I own, some just sustain and pop more than others. At this point I've owned over 100 guitars but never more than 15 a time. There's some wisdom in that but it's mostly just madness.

Sidebar:
I'm currently on a tear with the evh relic series. A total unadulterated rock machine wthout even trying. Very comfortable. The one I have now simply rips. Currently putting an air norton S in the neck and it has a custom custom in the bridge.
I was slicing my hand on the mini pickguard so, in keeping with the theme, I put a full clear on and painted its interior in an evh tribute style

Now that same custom custom sh11 was in my silhouette and it was awful there. In the no frills basswood strat body, it's a blast.

Huge agree on pickups making a big difference. My two favorite guitars (mayones and reverend) dont sound as good at home into studio monitors as my cheapo agile with dimarzio 36th annis. I love those 2 guitars into my recto when I'm playing live but for some reason the agile sounds better at home.

I saw something about the new synth sounding better without an amp block in the chain. I tried it and kinda agree lol. Anyone else try it with no amp or cab block?
