NDSP Quad Cortex

Once Stadium it out, imagine the shit-storm if they announced a QC MK 2 :chef

Apropos of nothing, i love being a fly on the wall over at NDSP's Discord when these releases happen

I generally feel like it’s the opposite for me, with the caveat that I don’t think I’ve ever used a preset from NDSP or Fractal.

I can get a sick tone happening WAY faster and with a lot less bullshit way quicker in NDSP plugins than Fractal. And if I’m just loading up presets I’ve made earlier, then give me decent looking slick plugins every day of the week. I probably find NDSP plugins easier to get a great tone dialled in quickly over any other platform.

I basically always swap the IR’s out too, but that goes for Fractal as well (and is too important to just always use stock cabs IMO).
Just a spur of the moment comparison. You know what ears are like, changing all the time. But I was really unimpressed with how similar those plugins all sound, and how kind distant the stock cab block makes everything sound. You're right they get better when you load an IR in.

Which makes me think there's something going on in the DSP of the cab block that just fucks the phase response across the frequency spectrum. I'd be keen to try and test that actually.

I know Mansoor is know for recording with Pod in the past, but was/is he a Helix user? Because that "Glitch pedal" is straight up HX's Glitch Delay.

N/M, from the clips i've heard it's definitely closer to a Hologram Microcosm, which i think Misha used in the past. Helix's Glitch Delay will get you there as well thou.

It's a cool effect.

Rabea said it was modelled off the microcosm. Doesn’t seem to be the same but can see the DNA in there for it

At least it went straight to X.

I've been asking for a ring mod for ages, so hopefully we get a QC version.

Otherwise, too same-y. And I've pretty much settled on Nameless, to be honest.

Just installed this now & trying it out; love the Precision Drive pedal.

The Rhythm amp is definitely some 5150.

The Lead amp with the Voice switch down is British alright; Voice switch up comes across as diode clipping - more hairy, aggressive.

I'm all for this type of music and a fan of Periphery.

But I've listened to a few videos and it sounds.....bad?

I'm definitely going to give it a spin myself and maybe it's just the tone Periphery uses but it's so thin and fizzy sounding 😔

I couldn't get into their music & dig the more hi-gain stuff so it's definitely not for everybody.

I do appreciate the technicality of it all etc but it's not my thing either.

All the demos sound pretty typical of Misha's Periphery and Haunted Shores tone to me.

But I mean, almost everything I heard was covered by Archetype Plini (Fender Clean, Friedman/modded Marshall-ish amp, blend of 5150 and Friedman) and Archetype Nolly (pretty much the same except the 5150 wasn't blended, but instead was modded).

I'm genuinely curious how many times they can get people to buy the same Archetype over and over with, like, 5 percent of effects changed.

That pedal was in the Helix. Loved it there too.

Used to use a mod ring on Helix all the time. I used to split a line at the input of clean tones and put a mod ring and reverb on it. I'd put the line at about 25% volume and join it back at the end of the clean tone, before the output.

It made cleans sound chime-y. Kinda missed that when I got the QC. It was part of my sound.

Yeah. It's not a bad sounding plugin by any stretch, but there's little differentiating it from other chugga-chugga Archetypes - which NDSP seems to release a lot of.

I just watched the Rabea demo and he almost looks bored over the entire review. The only exception was a short segment showcasing the Glitch thing.

I think if you’re a young kid or uber fan really into a band or artist, these sorts of curated plugins probably resonate a lot more then to people who already have every tone known to man covered on a handful of other plugs and devices.

In the spirit of a Neural thread:

That lead amp's growing on me & I love the cabs too. Don't care for the Gltchy Lasers but the Stereo Delay's pretty cool

Cool they finally managed to release a plugin I'm not even interested in demo-ing.

im.kinda with you on that.

But that's not just happening there. They're isn't much where is say I love the IRs and that includes the Soldano x88 etc

Apparently the clean amp is Mesa Lonestar inspired but with some tweaks.

The middle amp is a mix of 5150 and Granophyre.

Last amp is Friedman and...uhh...something else. I forget now lol. Edit: Bogner Snorkler.

And the a glitch is inspired by Microcosm and Mood.

So those aren't really in other plugins, though at this point things are pretty similar and do have some overlap.

The only thing not in others is the glitch (Well, that's in Helix Native, but I digress....).

Fender-y cleans are in most of their Archetypes. There are 5150 derivatives/customized/modded/mixed in Plini, Gojira, Nolly, Amp 3 of Archetype: Abasi, Rabea (the Gain II on a Kraken is very 5150-inspired by Rabea's own words).....

Hot-rodded Marshall derivatives/whatever are in Abasi, Plini, Nolly.

Even more importantly, 4x12 V30 IRs from Nolly are in a lot of NDSP plugins. Pretty well-trod territory.

Did they confirm the amps somewhere? I'd be curios to see that conversation.

Edit: NVM - mentioned here:
