For me the main value of captures is: Take your existing hardware, at your favorite settings, and put it inside a virtual block on a little box that can go anywhere.

This is why the Kemper has such good representation in pro live rigs... Dial up a bunch of IRL signal chains in the studio; reproduce them in the box and have them as direct tones in the wild... It's the OG for that use model.

And then there is the secondary value of being able to sample stuff you don't have access to or is not modeled anywhere else, even if it is only a single snapshot from a settings/config standpoint. Cliff doesn't have an ADA MP1 schematic? Just give me a cap with the Macheal Wagner settings, LOL.

If you want a bunch of virtual amps that are authentically adjustable and are building signal chains fully in the digital realm; the modeling paradigm is preferable.

It is cool that the QC can do both, but it would be nice if development of non-paywalled 'models' was not at a complete standstill. I would expect more devices with both options going forward. It's gotten too easy to add on capturing now that AI has busted down the door on the KPA's lock on that.

As we now know, the number of people who profile their own gear is pitifully low. Most people just use it as a surrogate model, for an amp they never owned and never had any intention of owning. Basically capture tech is a way for people to have Fractal amounts of amps; whether the quality is there, is anyone's opinion.

For you cautious guys who generally wait to update, I'd definitely keep waiting as the newest one has bricked several units reported at Unity, others reporting repeated crashing when editing presets, couple reports of the Momentary function no longer functioning, John's Amp JPIIC+ now pops when changing channels (that one seems to be across the board while the others are sporadic) and odd footswitch behavior/changes.

So I just did the latest firmware update and boy do I regret it. Worked fine for a couple of days and all of a sudden, the QC shut off on its own then started flashing blue LED lights then I got the grey screen of death and that was it folks. Damn I miss my Kemper Stage.

i really like momentary octave stuff. been eyeing this pedal called the noise from tallon.

i checked and no one has captures of it on the cloud yet.

i already have the momentary octaves but what else would you add to recreate some of the more obnoxious stuff? i tried having the rough pitch at 23 and the fine one at 24 and vice versa. tried both tremelos. i tried a hm2. getting closer but not quite there. i wish the qc had some of the synth stuff the helix did.

Add a tight chorus and a slightly lo-fi eq to the momentary switch. Super fast tremolo, really short delay with the trails up high and the tails off so it cuts when you let go. Putting them before or after the pitch shifter will change the sound, too.

To me the Noise pedal sounds like pitch with a fast ramp, chorus or flange, and a filter.

Having a model allows you to dial in the tone traditionally, but unless you tweak often, I still see an advantage to the capture's low processing overhead. If you were to dial in a model, and then convert it to run as a capture, you could in theory open up processing power for effects, or other things in the chain.

For me, I have found that I can sort through well done captures very quickly to find the tone I am looking for, or get close and tweak the controls to get me there. I would say on average it takes about the same time as dialing in a model, and both take slightly longer than dialing in a real amp. Perhaps it is my experience with the real amps, and knowing what I am looking for that helps it go quickly, but for me it is nothing at all like sorting through IR's with different mic's and mic placement.

Good point about the CPU usage. I hadn't really considered that but it's obvious when I think about it.

Yikes. No bueno! I sometimes wait a bit to update the QC. Not out of caution, but because I was back to using real amps for a bit there. But I jumped on this one pretty quick because of Nolly X which I absolutely love. And it hasn't disappointed yet. I have to admit, there seem to be a few too many software issues with the QC. It scares me that I may have an issue down the line.

This is the one reason I was ok with selling it, it’s really a great device all around. But it’s volatile, I think. I’m gonna put my money on the Stadium with its cloning tech and if they don’t update their effects to make me happy I’ll use my VP4 via SPDIF.

Although I haven't used it much the last few months, with the addition of Nolly X I feel like it's right there for me. Years ago, well before the QC was even announced, I said I'd be happy with a box that played their plugins. Now that they've started on that path I'm loving it more and more.

And it's the modeler I've had the most "fun" with. I love when I discover a tone - typically via YouTube, sometimes while pooping - that I want to try and I can so easily just snag it on the cloud and it's available on the QC next time I fire it up. No computers needed.

If it fails, and I'm starting to fear it's more a matter of when than if, if I'm at the point where I feel compelled to move on, I will sorely miss the PCOM for sure, and potentially the fun factor depending on what other modelers are doing by then.

Stadium will have plenty of "fun factor", but as far as QC goes, I wouldn't worry too much over problems you're not having.

I updated one of mine, but I've barely had a chance to play through it (or play at all) since. I guess I'll leave the other one a rev behind for a few weeks.
