I get that flipping gear is a) a pain in the ass and b) an opportunity to lose a few bucks. But this notion that a platform that doesn't last forever is some kind of fraud or failure? Come on, man - it's the tech sector. Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky...

I thoroughly agree. I was more amused at the "If I buy this then it's all I can ever use" sentiment that was coming up in those posts, as if flipping it for another modeler is unheard of.

I would bet that the QC cloud is down or limited functionality by 2035, with a good chance it doesn't make it that long. No way I am investing in that ecosystem right now.

Agreed! So glad to have it back. I only had a minute to plug it in and verify it was up and running again.

Looked like a full factory restore. All my presets, etc. were gone, and I didn't have time connect and download a backup. I don't know whether this was a hardware repair, or an overwrite of some corrupt content, or what. I'll ask, of course, but I doubt I'll ever get a clear answer.

Anyway. Thanks again, NDSP, in case anyone is lurking around these parts.

I was speaking to the other mods here about how we could better keep threads on track with the reality that there are some (myself included) that have some gripes that can detract from the flow of a thread, or just kill enthusiasm for those who don’t share those gripes. But the point of our discussion wasn’t to eliminate the gripes entirely, but creating a place for them to be heard where it’s not screwing with other’s enjoyment of the forum in general.
