NDSP Quad Cortex

True - 40's a lot but maybe you do 1 amp and several pedals & you'd hit that threshold faster than you think; I'm just curious if they allow you to reamp but process the next day.
Yeah something similar to Tonex V2 system would be good where your captures end up in a queue, and you need to move them to a separate processing queue from there. Which in NDSP's case would be cloud processing.

I do hope they add on-computer processing as an option for those who want to make a shitload of captures.

Interesting how they sort of took the Kemper v2 route - this is cool, but it sucks that "good" captures can no longer be created in-device, let alone without an internet connection.

Really nice update otherwise. A Micropitch model! ❤️
I may be misunderstanding your concern here, but V1 captures on-device are still supported.

Finally! I was just about to move on from mine because of the lack of dumble model (which I almost exclusively play). They teased it before launch and never released it. Guess I’ll stick around a while longer
I’ve never even seen a Dumble IRL, but this model is amazing. It’s like an amplifier construction set, and it feels great to play. I’m starting to understand why folks pay bazillions of dollars for the real hardware.

the only reason most people buy devices that also happen to have capture profile is that they plan to download the best amps in the world lol
Or they may rent 2 or 3 day in a studio and record everything...but ultimately it's for poor people like me who would never play a Bogner Fish or a Bogner Ubershall

Yeah and V1 captures were already “good”. V2 is just apparently better.
That's the other thing with training locally on MY computer. I'm not limited to 10 a day, 40 a day, however many a day. I can do as many as I'd like.

Implementing a limitation ... that really blows IMO. People have paid £1600 for your device.
I get where this is coming from but you can still do as many captures as you want on your hardware using V1.

I don’t see it as them “implementing a limitation.” They added a new capability that has some limitations. I’d think the 40 capture limitation is there to ensure everyone has the ability to use it since it’s using finite compute servers. And I wouldn’t imagine all that many people will be wanting to spend much more than 7 hours a day capturing gear anyway.

They are, but apparently V2's are way better, so will people even bother? 🤷‍♂️

From what little i've gathered, these new Neural Captures are truly "neural", in the sense they're NN-based, like NAM, ToneX, Proxy et al. This also means there's zero chance to train them in-device - DSPs are simply not up to the task.

I think it depends on what you’re capturing. V1 amp captures were and remain excellent. V2 overcomes challenges with really dynamic stuff like fuzz.

Point is, if you want/ need local capturing, you’ve still got it.

V1 was alright but still left a lot to be desired when you went into tones which were gainier & had a certain amount of high-end to them. V2 seems to perform pretty darn good.

God... I've been a couple hours testing V2 captures with my buddy in his QC. It's just incredible. We couldn't find differences to the real gear. And A/B-ing with similar V1 preamps captures, the difference is there. They sound better, more alive. I can't explain what it is... But this is huge. What an improvement!

This just isn’t a big deal. You are limited to 40 per day and let’s say they each take 10 mins. Very few (almost none?) people will sit and need to do more than 40 captures a day. IOW - Not really a limitation that would affect many people imo.

Micropitch!

Looking through the V2 captures that NDSP put out, a lot of them aren't just captures of the amp. They're a captures of the amp and some other device.

Just one example.

We tested compressors too. That´s huge, mates. They feel amazing. This is the most groundbreaking feature of the update, IMHO. We A/B´ed a 1176 clon with its capture, and a CS-3, and even a digital LA-2A in the ancient POD bean (which is amazing, by the way)... and captures were spot on, both in sound and feeling.

We were shocked. These guys have really nailed it. Kudos NDSP... for me, this is the new standard in capturing.

EDIT:

Actually, I think that the improvement in that "compression capturing capabilities" has a huge influence in how much more "organic" the preamp captures feel. We captured several channels of a Triaxis, and man... just wow. It´s insane. My buddy sometimes posts blind tests in his TikTok/facebook, comparing digital (QC) to analog (Triaxis and Mark IIb), so his audience can try to guess which is which. Yesterday he told me he´s not going to be able to do it again because he himself is not able to distinguish them. I´m maybe being too enthusiastic, I don´t know. I feel this is the larger step in capturing since NAM.
