NDSP Quad Cortex

When used with the Looper, the Metronome synchronizes automatically and can provide a count-in before recording. The Metronome can also play during recording without being recorded into the loop.
This is cool.

I don’t own a QC. My comment was based on what I read in the update notes. I haven’t dug into the manual yet, but I hear it has a good looper.
Looper is excellent imo. On my personal list though: the option to have basic Looper functions tied to switches on (Lets say) the bottom row, and still have acces to scenes/stomps on the top row.
Atm, I bring a small midi pedal to gigs where I use the looper, to have the ability to switch my sounds, while keeping the Looper “always ready”.

What kind of options does the Sound menu have? Like can it work as a crappy drum machine like the one on my Hotone can by playing a very short drum loop?
When they update it I’ll try and remember to report! I forget what the plugin metronome sound options are but I bet they’re the same.

Are you using the midi pedal to switch between switch layouts or strictly for your tones while in looper mode?
The midipedal also has a switch programmed to toggle the QC between looper/gigview, but…that is used once at soundcheck. I keep the QC in looperview and switch scènes/sounds from the midipedal.

Only for this particular gig btw (duo with a singer), I only add the midipedal when I need the looper. The use of the Looper is not all preplanned (improvised components), so I don’t have time (or brainspace) to do it all from the QC by toggling views.

I only use 2 switches from the Looper, so I hope NDSP comes up with a way combine use of the Looper with instant acces to a couple of scenes.

WTH?! I created a really amazing jazz preset on the Quad Cortex by accident today.

I was messing around with a 64 Fender preset I already have made by going through all the clean amps one by one, without changing the other stuff.

In the end I didn't find any of them as good as the 64 so I switch back to that.

I was playing for a bit when I noticed I accidentally switched the cab instead of the amp on the last swap and I ended up with a Plini clean into the 64, with no cab at all.

Yet it sounds great!

Glowing endorsement for QC tones, some of the worst I've ever heard out of it, must be an off day at the office

You'd think they'd know mic-ing up a "FRFR" cab is a stupid decision.

I'd have shot an IR of that same cab + mic they have on the Kraken and used that direct to their mixer (instead of sticking a "FRFR" + other mics).

They mic-ed up an already mic-ed up tone..great

Yes to all of that... but the Kraken into a 1x12 sounds like a telephone EQ has been applied to it, whats the excuse there haha.

These are all great setups, kind of spectacular to get this bad a sound out of it honestly.

Oh yeah but still sounded better than the mic-ed up "FRFR"; was just comparing the samples "at hand" :rofl

That Kraken is a great amp though.

Lee is pretty spot on when he says he got advice on how to make a set of studio monitors sound like a "FRFR" cab, and the answer was "buy bigger studio monitors".

Somehow in that video they still got truly awful distorted tones out of all the output systems. Overall it's interesting but not a great comparison with so many variables.

It is…but an excellent demonstration of what “close miced with a 57” actually does..and why it will never represent what a cab spits out.
We have grown acustomed to what it does in front of a guitarcab, what we listen to for decades on records, we can make it work, but it’s not even close to a 1 on 1.

On the flipside, even if they had used a flat reference mic...that would not have turned out that great either. I think there is something good about those "characterful" mics that makes them sound nice and familiar for electric guitar recording.

Best setup would have probably been relying more on room mics, but even that is a difficult thing because the placement of the speakers will have an effect.

Yeah, true…it’s near to impossible to capture what you hear in the room, whatever you use. (Which does not equal the capture sounds bad ;))

To be honest, I don’t think I like that guitarist anyway (the NDSP guy, idk his name) or his tones. 🥱
John Connearn I think (sp)? He's done some pretty decent tones elsewhere iirc. And some of his videos with the plugins have been pretty good. He's a versatile player which makes him good for demoing versatile gear.

But yeah I totally get what you're saying.

Yeah never going to tag on a guy but his times are a little crispy

I think I had a stroke typing this
