NAM: Neural Amp Modeler

So how many epochs do you usually go for?
It depends on what I'm training: if it's hi-gain stuff, I go with 1000 epochs at a minimum combined with a lower learning rate & decay (more recently, leveraging my own take on DLC86's TTS sequence). For stuff that converges easier maybe less but leverage the early-stop feature where training halts when a certain ESR is reached (I might go 0.005 or lower depending on how patient I am & how much stuff I have in the pipeline).
I usually do a quick run through the tones I'm training to gauge how they fare & take it from there.

Just did a new batch of captures of my ENGL Fireball 25, this time using the internal (resistive) load.

One capture also has the clean channel with a Wampler Euphoria in front. Any tips to get even better captures are welcome!

Now I’ve added new captures with a 1x12 V30 as well, they’re in the same pack. They sound much better then with the resistive load!

Also did a hi gain one with a Precision Drive in front.

Is xSTD still the somewhat "secondary" standard that people are using? I can't find the values but I vaguely recalling pumping something into Tone3000 to alter the standard training values. If xSTD is still the one can someone shoot me those values, and if there's something "better" then let me in on it!

I'm doing a bunch of capturing now and am going to look at the latest ToneX / NAM but I figure if one of these xSTD type ones is a notch better then its worth throwing it into the mix.

*EDIT*
I found the xSTD stuff. I was searching for DLC but I think he's gone and thats why it wasnt coming up

I think Melda's MGuitarArchitect and Atomic Tonocracy both have some kinda drag and drop, but maybe in Tonocracy not directly into a signal chain.

Oh right, Tonocracy had it. Not gonna use it at all anymore, though.

Anyway, I think this is something every player should support. Just like software samplers support sample drag'n'drop.

I don’t think you can drag and drop in Genome but I never tried because the method they use is really quick and painless. If you haven’t tried it yet it’s worth a demo visit.

There is a choice to put a NAM block called Codex or a modeled amp block in the signal chain. So if you want to change a NAM capture, just to the right of the NAM file field in the Codex block is a folder icon, click it and whatever folder you choose to keep them in opens and click on your choice. Done.

Genome has a great user interface for creating those signal chains, save as presets, good effects, routing, etc
I uninstalled Tonocracy because Genome was better and extremely well supported where as Tonocracy is dead.
Genome is stand alone or a plugin whichever you want.

Yeah, I really enjoy Genome, it's turning into one of the best amp sim software suites IMO, even discounting codex/NAM support.

Genome doesn't have drag and drop yet, but I've mentioned a few things such as that to Guillaume, including Drag and Drop for NAMs, and also something like ''arrows" (buttons) down the bottom so we can cycle through all the amp component list directly, instead of clicking and menu diving.

Perhaps @Ross Davies could see about the possibility of adding them in a future update one day? =)

I own Genome and find it as cumbersome as it gets as it doesn't show you the folders you have created for your NAM files.

Proper file browsers are something nobody really seems to care about much in general. Pulldowns are slow and cumbersome to deal with, next/previous arrows help very little with that. Tree structures reflecting folders that stay open if you wish are the way to go. Plus drag and drop.

You must mean multiple sub folders all listed? When I click the folder icon in the Codex block it opens my NAM files folder where they are. I don’t have enough to bother with subfolders though so maybe that’s why it seems be so fast and easy for me. One click from the icon right there beside the currently loaded file and I’m looking at a list of my downloaded NAM choices. So, one click to see choices another click and it’s switched to my new choice and start playing again.

Or maybe it’s a limitation with the plugin? I tend to use it stand alone.

Hi Guys, Ross from Two notes here. Thanks for looping me in Dom!

Thanks for the feedback guys — sadly I cant disclose what we have in-store, however we are working on a raft of updates for 2026 and every bit if feedback I get is sent to our team for consideration; all of the above included!

Thanks again and if you have any other suggestions/requests, let me know!

Drag and drop is fine but it's honestly a bit fidgety still because you can't really do it with one hand (when you need various windows open, and you still have to navigate folders and file lists). It can be nice to drag and drop folders worth of files into an interface, but I'd really like a NAM loader to be able to filter by metadata and organise things.

Type to search is way better, it doesn't require juggling multiple windows, or clicking and dragging.

yeah I think both would be nice. The latter would probably be a far bigger job, so at least adding the ability to do a drag and drop from folder to interface would be a good start and it would nicely suite those of us who already have their organisation sorted neatly in their system folders.
ps. why can't you drag and drop easily with one hand?

when I mentioned next / previous arrows, it'd be great if this was down the bottom of the main Genome gui for amp components (that's already in codex)...

something like this:

Usually you’ll want to use one hand on the keyboard for modifiers or shortcuts when going between different windows, apps and file lists. Doing it with one hand is like watching my dad trying to use a computer

I dunno, maybe I'm just better than your dad? [j/k]
...but I've literally never had any issue with one-handed drag and drops of any media from an open folder, eg. over the top of Reaper.
I am always using that method to drop files into arrange view in Reaper.
In context to NAMs > Melda's MGuitarArchitect supports the drag+dropping of NAM files, and it's as easy as pie to do one-handed.

Anyway, would be a nice feature to have. =)

Apart from drag and drop, any file browsing system needs an option to navigate through it with the arrows on your keyboard, period.
