NAD: MESA/Boogie Mark VII

At least based on name alone. Extreme mode? No thank you :ROFLMAO:

Hey, what happens if you run L6 Insane mode into Mesa Extreme?

Do you have a V now? I wasn't expecting to like the Edge and Mk I modes, yet here we are :bonk
Nah I'm referring to when I had one over the summer. I think we chatted about it. Every channel on that amp is 10/10. Channel 3 may get a bit redundant with the 3 modes but outside that 👌

If you can find it between $1200 and $1400, which isn't uncommon, id snag it .

I just found it too finicky at times for settings and well....we know how I churn gear 🤣

Yeah the prices are NUTS on these. No $1200 deals that I am finding :LOL:

Crunch mode gets all the attention and for good reason, but edge is my go to on channel 2 these days

Mark I is awesome as long as you're ok actually dialing in how it needs to be, and it kind needs some lower frequencies cut on the GEQ which compromises other channels. The preset knobs kinda work, but it definitely doesn't sound the same as actually running th GEQ

How does V crunch compare to Badlander crunch? Same universe or...?

Some guys on the Mesa forum say the crunch is similar to a VII crunch mode (which I guess I wouldn't really know)

But honestly I think the core voicing of badlander vs mark is so different that I wouldn't really try to compare them

Tell me it sounds terrible with the EVH cabinet :brick

Those Mids are why a Mark can sit so well in a mix, and why a Recto can get so easily buried
and become Mud.

It's so funny to me that I have become so accustomed to dialing in Marks and Rectos nothing
like what most people suggest. It's just what my ears gravitate towards. I like Mids and articulation.
That often means dropping the Bass, bumping the Mids, and not rolling off the Treble too much. :idk
Big same here. When I migrated from my bedroom to the stage, hard lessons were learned some about midrange, gain levels, and fitting into a live mix with a 2ch Recto playing heavier stuff in a 2 guitar band.

I’m not saying you can’t get great scooped tones out of a Recto or Mesa, just that my experience has repeatedly proven to me that I need less gain than I think, more mids, and less bass when playing live versus in my bedroom.

That said, the Mark is its own little beast.

Biggest thing I see on the V is I would never want to switch modes within a channel like I did with the VII. At least based on name alone. Extreme mode? No thank you :ROFLMAO:

When you switch to Extreme there is a huge volume increase too. However it sounds like a super rich, supercharged Mark. Nothing like a II, III or IV at all. It's literally it's own thing. I never use it but it's cool to have as an extra tone in the box.

Ola had a good Extreme demo too:

Extreme mode is sweet. I usually use Mk IV mode but agreed nice to have

I've read before that the modes on channel 3 were originally going to be called Tight, Fat, and Extreme. I honestly kind of wished they had done that instead of setting people up for disappointment but obviously that ship has sailed and they're going to continue on with those laurels

Is extreme just a normalish Mark lead mode with no negative feedback?
