NAD: Marshall JCM 800 2203x

Two words. Holy Fuck!!!

@Sirloin wasnt lying. The SOUND of ROCK!! Indeed!! 🤘

Working for home today waiting for this thing to be delivered. Only played it a bit. But it’s HELLA LOUD!! Not plexi loud but it could be if cranked.

With pre on 8.5 and master on 1.5, it’s 105 dB about a yard from the stack per my Apple Watch. :headbang

This is gonna be fun!

Don’t know if anyone else has noticed but Marshall seems to have quietly renamed the 2203. It no longer carries the ‘X’ moniker.

I noticed when I recently got a new JCM 800. It was labeled as 2203-01 on the box. Some sites also show it as 2203-01 and have it labeled as from the ‘Vintage Series’.

Sure enough a quick check on the Marshall (US) web page. They also seem to highlight that it’s “Master Volume”… The box label also had this boldly shown.

Back shots… Don’t know what the star stickers mean on the tubes and why one is green… Those red bases tubes I believe are TAD (sourced from China possibly but I’m not sure).

Back doesn’t say X either.

The capacitors are Tube Amp Doctor.

Transformer labels… guessing the Vietnamese ones.

I love any amp which has tubes in it. Always worth drooling. Even if it costs as much as a house which I obviously can't afford (looking at you, Dumble amps) I will quietly stay in a corner and listen to someone play plugged in it.

The TS9 and SD1 are both awesome in slightly different ways paired with a 2203.

Don't know which is which but one of them is asymmetrical clipping which is what some people say that tube amps do.

Someting like the Wampler triumph has the features of both. Analogman also mods SD1s to make them capable of doing this, according to a friend whon educated me on these.
