NAD: Marshall DSL100HR

@mbenigni - The DSL is a pretty great amp.

@everyone else - stfu with the JCM900 hate. You don't know what you're talking about !!!!
Ok maybe I went overboard with the 900 shade, but I’ve frequently clarified my hate is deservingly limited to the dual reverb. The 900 mkIII and SL-X are both killer and unfortunately lumped in with that other turd by association.

There are just SO MANY models and variations. For a Marshall noob, it's pretty overwhelming. (That's why I went with, "What have you got that's so cheap there's no way I'll regret it?" LOL.)

Man, on paper, a DSL40cr should be perfect for me, but I've tried a few of them, (in GC mind you), in the last couple of years, and, maybe the problem was that I had them down too low, but I just didn't love the tones.

I think the cabinet is going to be the make or break. I would love to saw one down and use with a closed back cab or two.

You have to crank it a little to wake it up and they are absolutely loud as shit. I also replaced the stock speaker with a V30 and that really helped. I wish I’d had adhered to the Never Sell, Only Buy rule at the time, because I wouldn’t mind still having it around for a simple plug n play amp.

Obviously just my opinion, but overall I still think the DSL is superior to the 900, with the SL-X being the exception because it’s unique with the extra tube gain stage added. That comes with a big limitation in that you’re back to a single channel amp with the SL-X.

I had a feeling this might be the case, I mean, it's a Marshall, duh.

So you're saying, I should go tomorrow to try another 40cr, crank it up a little, and maybe buy it, because I have a credit at GC? Is that what you're saying?

I'll expect the PM chain to resume :grin

Thanks Jeff Bezos!

When I realized Amazon was now carrying a lot of the major pedals, life changed forever, and probably not for the better. :ROFLMAO:

Next-day pedals…

I tried a friend's DSL40C a few weeks before I ordered my HR, and it actually put me off the idea of getting a Marshall for a little while. The DSL40C at low volumes was everything I always thought I disliked about Marshalls: strident highs; loose, grainy, "blatty" gain. Plenty of gain but not necessarily in a good way? :idk Also, the front panel got hot enough to take your fingerprints off ;) which was weirdly distracting. Granted, I didn't spend a whole lot of time trying to get it dialed right - maybe I missed something.

The 100HR is night and day. The gain is much more modern sounding to my ear, and the EQ was easier to wrap my head around. Some of this may be down to changes in the circuit (esp. EQ) since the 40C was current; probably more is a result of running a closed back 4x12 vs. a little 1x12.

Amp is still MIA.
That sucks man. I don't want to put this in your head, but sometimes, when these "mishaps" happen to me, I start thinking that it just wasn't meant to be, and/or it's because there's something else you're supposed to be playing, lol.

I agree on all accounts
