NAD - Marshall DSL100H

Also consider a good attenuator so you can get the full experience!
As for tubes, I think JJs are good ( and cheap ) enough for starters.
TBH I prefer their EL34 (or EL34 II second best) over anything else I tried. Not a big fan of their ECC83S (at least not in the v1 position) but otherwise, the JJ EL34 are pretty darn good, "musical" tubes.

Awesome Find !! man there sure seems to be a lot of GAS of late lol

:beer :chef :beer
Tube amp was on my wish list and I just happen to be in the right place at the right time, so the GAS wasnt too bad yesterday but now that it's sitting in the corner of the room, looking for a cab is killing me...

i like mine, hangs right there with any of my other amps with the right boost. records easy. everyone should have one for the $500 or so i see them for
It’s funny that we haven’t learned this lesson from the JCM 800 and JCM 900 prices over time, but it does seem like the DSL could be the next diamond in the rough as far as tone per dollar spent. You can’t find a Fender solid state tonemaster for under $750 but 100w all tube DSL heads are all over the place for $500-600.

Very similar impressions here. I have the JJ EL34 in every EL34 compatible amp I own. They sound KILLER and have been rock solid reliable.

Their ECC83 is trash though. I keep some for backups but have shifted off to primarily lightly used vintage 12ax7 as they tend to be similarly priced with better construction and usually better tones.

I do like the JJ 803s though, which sounds fantastic in anything I’ve put it in. That tube is a real sleeper, though it’s also getting expensive.

Give their E83CC a try too. It's a pretty good tube even in V1 but slightly more expensive. Heard it's good as a PI tube as well because of its construction (can take a beating).

I like me a current production Tung Sol 12AX7 in V1. It's nuts that as little as 5 years ago you
could source vintage and/or NOS preamp tube for the price of a JJ or Tun Sol now.

JJs are dark when it comes to preamp tubes. Some cats seem to like that with a Marshall circuit.
I am not one of them. Retain that upper-end harmonic content. :chef

Found a barely used Marshall 1922 212 Cab with G12T-75's I'm going to look at on Sunday for a decent price. Thoughts?

a lot of people are missing out, but theres just some guys that for whatever reasons arent going to play a "cheap" amp like a DSL. i saw a thread recently a guy asked what amp to compliment his other high dollar stash of amps, i think it was a bogner and engl, i said i would just get a regular old industry standard 5150 for a little more rawness, he seemed turned off because they are only $1300 and i assume thinking it cant be good enough at that price where i look at it like im probably dumb for not having one for that amount.

how much?? anything with T75's is going to be at least decent. those are a big smaller than the 1936's i believe
Yeah, the cab is a little smaller than the 1936. It's only about 27" wide and my head is a little under 30", so it's going to stick out 3/4" on each side, but IDGAF. I've been dreaming of playing through a 100w Marshall forever, and now I have one sitting in the corner and I don't have anything to play it through so I'm buying something within a week from now.

They guy said he would take $250 for it and if it is in good shape I'm going to buy it Sunday. If not, I have about 6 different 412, including the Peavey, ranging from $300-$500. I really don't need a 412, but I'll get one if that 212 doesnt work out.

Absolute worst case scenario, I have a 212 that I can play for now or sell and not get hurt on while I find that perfect 412. All the 412's locally are in decent shape, but the 212 looks brand new and sitting in the living room and the wifey will like the newer looking one better. She wont like it, but will like it better:rofl

I was gonna say $250 tops for that cab. That will be a sweet little stack

Yeah. Get it. $250 for a Marshall 2x12 loaded with them 75s will more than get the job done. :beer

Does it need it though? I have the newer 100HR and it sounds very good at whisper volumes in the lower wattage mode.

I have not played it yet, but a few guys over at MAF said I probably wont need it. Plus, the neighbors avoid me as much as possible. On one side are Northerners that are only here 4-5 months. The other one is single guy that is never home. I work from home, so I can play as loud as I want during the day.
