I'll be honest, I've not listened to a single Megadeth album all the way through, since Countdown to Extinction. But it's still bittersweet. Does this mean we'll finally stop having to listen to Dave bitch about Metallica?! :rofl

Despite them being one of my absolute favorites; I am not sad about this.

They had definite pockets of suck. AKA Risk, Pitrelli era and most of the Drover/Broderick stuff. Youthanasia was peak commercial Megadeth, imo. System Has Failed was great and Dystopia was :chef The last album was solid, if a bit paint by numbers. Dave has earned his stripes, whether you like him or not.

He HAS earned his stripes, AND I think he's an asshole. :rofl
But Rust and Countdown tunes are still to this day in regular rotation for me.

They are still musically phenomenal, live. I liked his vocals over the years warts and all but he's hit the limit on how good that can be on the live front a long while ago. Which IS sad to me.

He's definitely the BIlly Corgan of thrash. Imperfect, but iconic, and I would love to see them live. Saw Pumpkins last year, and whilst it wasn't perfect, I still loved every minute of it.

I saw them of So Far So Good. Which was a trainwreck, unfortunately. The on Clash of the Titans :chef , a go round during Countdown and again on Youthanasia. Last saw them in 2017(?) on Dystopia with Kiko which was also :chef I regret not being able to see them with my favorite Chris Poland but they probably would have been strung out and terrible so I'll take what I got

I saw them during the Countdown anniversary tour (still my favorite concert ever), and during the Dystopia one. Fantastic both times

My goodness, his statement is presumptuous.

„[…] We have done something together that's truly wonderful and will probably never happen again. We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it's played, and we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. […]“

They are always with great bands as well! I think choosing to go out now is probably a good move. Dave will be retirement age when they are done I believe?
He's also had some significant health problems, so I understand him wanting to go out now, and actually enjoy retirement. I obviously can't claim to know how difficult a decision it must be, but it's smart, IMO.

I’ve seen Megadeth more rhan a few times and I’ll definitely see this last tour. Probably gonna check out the new album. I’m with JT on some of his picks although I also liked United Abominations a lot. Endgame and Thirteen were ok, not great. Super Collider was awful but somehow not Risk awful. Dystopia was fucking amazing. The most recent one was good, but definitely paint by numbers Deth.

If this is it, I’m happy he’s choosing to go out on his terms.

I have to admit that his personality has caused me to refrain from digging into their discography and I don't really mind that. I've heard their greatest hits, it's not as good as Metallica imo lol so I know what camp I'm in. Good riddance to an asshole I guess? But they are iconic and I can't deny their impact on the genre.

Yeah, I’ll take Metallica any day over Megadeth.
