Mark V head for $1500. Good deal?

like always
You already know that answer, "like always".

That doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a go. It might be different this time.

You are right. I really want a III still because it's for us dumbs
The Mark V's complexity is on par with the Mark VII (3 x channels, 3 x modes per channel, 3 x power amp settings) and we know how that experiment worked out.

Your setup is complicated enough without a Mk V. Maybe that new Friedman José Arredondo single channel anp with a Tone King Imperial preamp (for clean) in 4CM.

My only disclaimer to this is it would stay home in the jam room. No gig need complications. But your point 1 bazillion percent stands.

I found the Mark V to be the easiest of the Marks I've owned to dial in (IIB, multiple 3s, IVa and IVb and the V90). It actually sounds pretty good if you dial it in like a normal amp. It sounds better if you dial it in like a Mark, but it's not an amp that people are going to play at a store and think sounds awful because they don't know how to use it. I also found it to be the least interesting sounding of all the Marks I've owned. Except the Crunch setting. Crunch is awesome.

I wonder if crunch is similar to the crunch mode on the Badlander? I think the mode layout makes much more sense in the context of a 3 channel amp vs putting 3 modes you want to switch between on a single channel :(

oh brother.

dont you believe it. i know im an ocd scientist about learning to use an amp 100%- but my iib almost broke me.

theyre not necessarily super complex- butbi would never say any mesa is particularly intuitive. there's "common knowledge"- but im gonna say a lot of it is based on nothing more than other people saying it.

there is an element of sickness even a three is gonna exact on you to figure out. 😄

Oh I know how to work them; it's just putting all that good shit in a 5 pound bucket and expecting me to pick just one is sheer torture to how my brain works, NH :rofl

oh.. no me too! 😄 its like.. 'which is best?' and you proceed to spend all your time assessing versus playing 😄

believe me... therein lies the mesa struggle.. i found the worst part with the old mesas was wading through how to balance sounds and use all the features. then i just stopped and used it like an exploding NMV amp at any volume and the issue rectified itself 😄
