Line 6 is now pricing itself near fractal territory, will be interesting to see what they bring to the table?

Oh and on the OP, no they're not stepping into Fractal prices, they're simply offering more.

A Fractal device with Bluetooth connectivity, stem management and tracking capabilities, etc... along with their modeling would easily be in 3-4k+ range.
Let’s just start with the fact that one is a rack unit and one is an integrated floorboard solution. So if you want to compare prices, throw an FC12 and expression pedal into your FAS shopping cart.

Then we can start talking about all the fun new toys in Stadium.

I think it’s getting more like a cell phone. 10-15 years ago when they were new the technology leaps kept increasing. Everyone got new phones every 1-2 years. Now the technology changes are more minimal and with higher prices people are keeping phones for 3-4 years or more.

There’s always going to be crazy people with thousands of posts on Internet forums who have tons of gear already and still compulsively buy more stuff just to have it, but I’d guess the bread and butter hobbyists and small time gigging players will be reluctant.

Boss you mentioned, that’s interesting. Everyone is charging $1700+ for flagships but their current touchscreen modeler is about $650 or something. They seemed to go the other way and hang in the budget market.
I think you’re missing the mark on several counts here. It’s nothing like the cell phone market, which as you point out churns (or tries to) on an annual basis. Helix has been out for 10 years. The Stadium has substantial new functionality; it’s not just some iterative sound engine improvement where we could talk about subjectivity or law of diminishing returns. My point is, there is real demand in the marketplace. You can see it in online commentary; you can see it in the preorder numbers.

And as for the price increase, no one is even accounting for inflation here. The price in adjusted-for-inflation currency (in the US, at least) is probably not much different from Helix Floor at launch. (Disclaimer: I’m no accountant. I barely understand money at all LOL.)

P.S. I’ve had the same phone for 10 years. I’ve preordered a Stadium. (And I sold my FM3 because I thought it was aggravating.)

Boss still doesn’t count their touchscreen device (GX-100) as their flagship in this market, as it’s still fairly underpowered compared to the GT-1000. I can see them coming out with a GX-1000 soon in that $1200-$1500 price range (the GT1K is pretty much $1200 everywhere in North America now for reasons).

Yup. Again, everything is going up. There’s an Indonesian guitar being announced Monday that’s well north of $1500. $1799, I believe?
To be fair, I can see where these observations support Jarick’s point. Inflation and rising costs often mean people have to tighten their belts. But it doesn’t mean the cost of any given product is excessive. (Which perhaps he never said in the first place?)

I preordered the Stadium XL. I'm a Quad Cortex user. Fractal doesn't appeal to me because of the rough UI.

It remains to be seen how good the amp models/general audio quality will be in Stadium XL. However, I think this part of the tech has relatively plateaued. Therefore I'm more interested in having an efficient, pleasant UI and additional features. And the Stadium seems to have an edge in this respect.

The one gamble I think I'm taking is how much DSP it will have. I'd like to be able to build more complex signal chains than the QC allows, but I'm unsure to what extent this will be possible. I know it will have more DSP than the current Helix, but the Agoura models will also use more.

I would bet stadium sells pretty good. No idea what Line 6's expectations are, or who it'll compare to OG. I think a lot of people are going to like it, and talk about liking it, which will prompt people to give it a spin. DI has consistently stated their intent with new products is not to specifically pilfer the Fractal crowd. Stadium may or may not be sufficient to temp a few Fractal diehards. And of course there's a decent crowd of both/and guys in the Line 6 v Fractal realm.

In my case, I've had my LT for 8-9 years now and the idea of something new/improved but similar enough to what I'm working with that the learning curve should not be frustrating appeals to me. Helix was good enough I've only spent $179 on modelling gear (1 ea, POD express). If the Stadium holds up and grows for a decade, the ~$2K will be well spent in my book. That logic won't appeal to the tribes of other brands, which is fine. I get it.
