Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

I'm not suggesting we will or will not eventually support NAM profiles, but I can with 100% confidence say that if we do, giving up the fight against misinformation won't have anything to do with it.

Stated another way: "I have no clue how any of this works, but one guy on some YouTube channel is saying this, which freaks me out because I'm allergic to context, nuance, or actual reading, so Line 6 better change all their Stadium development plans to assuage my willful ignorance!"
I understand. We can't control the misinformation. However, in a world of $2000 modelers and people only being able to afford one, they will utilize comparisons whether that's video or not.
In the event that another modeler is deemed more accurate, and media is propagating the same, and is the deciding factor for purchase, then having NAM available on the platform gives a lot of weight.

I agree with LUFS/Null not being a great way to fully evaluate accuracy, and that boiling it down to one final ‘score’ makes even less sense. I will however say that in the many online tests I’ve heard and my own experience Leo’s scores do generally reflect my own findings. NAM is the best, Tonex/QC about the same and Kemper the worst. I’m not sure many would dispute that. Haven’t spent enough time with Proxy to have an opinion yet.

NAM is still the only one where I’ve captured stuff and thought wow that’s so good I could sell it and not miss it. However, the lack of it on any hardware that appeals to me is an issue.

There is hardware for it (Dimehead, Anagram, Sonulab etc) and I think when A2 scaling comes out it'll be more widely adpoted.... Or like, just get an AxeFx4 like the rest of us :rofl

I agree though, NAM is still the one where I'm consistently doing an AB of the original to the capture and I dont really need to deep dive analyze anything. It just seems to work as intended. It might be missing the last 1-2% compared to the amp but it's generally so good that you can't hear anything when AB'ing them.

fwiw I dont think Stadium "needs" NAM, as long as they keep trucking on with Proxy and keep improving it then I'll be happy there.

The only thing that NAM might have in its favor, assuming it is true, is the alleged ‘vast free library of captures’.
My guess is a Line 6 Proxy library will grow quickly. When it reaches a tipping point of excess it no longer matters which platform has the most. Well it might to handful of severely obsessive compulsive guitar nerds but they are not a market niche worth worrying about.

I’m thinking if you picked the most popular amp captured by NAM, take 20 of those captures of that amp type and quantify them every way you want to…null tests…whatever…I think the disparity of measured outcome will be roughly the same as the disparity of among the same number of amp type proxy clones.
There is a human factor that will poison the test results in any platforms library…
Only the people collecting ‘copies’ of their own amps and content creators who sell copies of amps have to be concerned with test results. And the tech is getting so good they are bordering on pedantic practices in that regard.

They need to get a sharing platform together quickly and monetise a store etc like TONEX. I’m sure they’re working on it as DI has hinted but I do think they should get it out sooner rather than later. The Cortex Cloud is a cool platform for sharing presets etc and is a good selling point for that platform, Line 6 needs something better than Customtone which is very 90s.

I was happy with my Kemper but I couldn’t capture dirt /fuzz pedals independently and the one time I tried to capture my 7w amp, it did a bloody awful job of it. Just ‘one of those amps’ as I enjoyed lots of other people’s profiles on there.

Proxy days from release allowed me to do both of those things and use them together…. I can still do a better capture of the amp (I just chose boringly obvious dial settings so I could see if it could actually get close rather than dialing in carefully first) but I’m more than happy with this first attempt - it has the characteristics of the original as it was set.

Exciting though this is, I’ve been sidelined by just how much I’m loving the Agoura Matchless. Not just sound quality but tweaking so easily in focus view - it’s compellingly awesome (for my taste preferences). As much as I’m looking forward to trying rare amps via proxy (which makes sense workflow-wise because of my Kemper history) I’m absolutely a fan of interacting with the controls of an amp like the Matchless (and using focus) vs choosing captures. Because of where I came from, I didn’t see that coming but here we are. I just find it easier to dial in the amp vs choosing another capture.

Yeah having the best of both worlds with Proxy and Agoura is very cool. QC v2 captures seem to be pretty top tier as well, its in just as good a spot with having solid "modelled" amps alongside captures.

I realised that I have a bunch of drive pedals here most people don't have and might be interested in, currently ripping through a couple packs (will all be free / donation). The community side of capturing/sharing gear/personal settings is great.

The null tests as done by Leo DO NOT measure accuracy of a capture/model/profile in a meaningful way. That is the problem and it is totally independent of the debate on the merits of accuracy or anything else.

To use a car analogy since people love them, its like he is parking cars in his garage and then based on how they fit, giving them a single score thats supposed to tell you how well they will perform going to by groceries, hauling 4 kids to soccer, hauling tools and lumber, and going around a race track. It makes no sense, but he sells it like it does.
Will it help me buy zucchini's ? Because I won't buy it if it doesn't, I simply won't.

Bring back dill testing I say, only pickles can settle who or what is best.
