Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

In the words of the great Reg, leader of the People's Front of Judea: "alright, don't belabor the point".

Great film ...... but in the words of Reg from On The Buses "cor blimey" .... make no sense and is totally irrelevant but it feels on point ;)

My personal fav ... " It's just a flesh wound - tis but a scratch "

Hi @Digital Igloo - thanks for taking the time to reply.

Yes, that’s the request - have a way to tell a Proxy stomp box what its input impedance is so you can use the ‘first enabled’ block feature in the input impedance parameter. My understanding is that you have the (circuit correct) input impedance built into the fuzz models within the Stadium so it would IMO make sense to be able to do this for cloned stomp boxes.

There’s a workaround now which I’ll try with a home-made low impedance fuzz at the weekend. The one I have here is true bypass but, when it’s on, the input impedance is very low (I think around 10k only).

I can absolutely make that work by creating a preset where I can make the In-Z parameter 10k and it should give me the behaviour I’m hoping for but……. When I turn the fuzz clone off, the overall preset will still have a 10k input impedance in play going to the amp model which will, at that point, sound a bit iffy! Which is why (in my opinion) having the ability to set the impedance for a proxy stomp box would be good so you can just use ‘first enabled’. For some styles of fuzz, this might be the secret sauce?
Is this a next-gen, kindler, gentler tito request in the making?

D.I., best to nip this in the bud. :rofl

That's exactly what I do, but every capture still needs at least +1 dB of pre-gain, +1dB of hi-end and +1dB of low-end. That's for both an AFD100 and BE100 Deluxe.
Consistent with my experience as well though I’ve had a couple captures where the midrange was skewed oddly as well, resonances in different spots.

With the gain and EQ adjustments I generally find results in the ballpark though. Not perfect but promising.

The 2 or 3 Y/T A/B Clips I've listened to so far are absolutely consistent with this. Once they have slightly adjusted the gain and low end ....and the seemingly very low level of the Proxy Clone itself ..... they sound bang-on.

Kemper has been a it for +15 years, QC for over 5 years, Tonex for nearly 4 years and NAM about 4 years.

Given its Day One for Proxy - and given we know that an at least partially relevant hot fix FW 1.3.1 is a day or 2 away ...... I'd guess that Proxy is going to get "pretty fucking bang-one " ..... " pretty fucking quickly".

Just in case you missed it. This is my real amps/qc/stadium comparison:

I deliberately chose my bad Bullet For My Valentine chuggy riff, because it's always this kind of palm muted ostinato type stuff where I notice differences. I always find if you're playing big open chords, then it is quite often more difficult to hear the differences in the system being produced by the model.

Do you still have your Stadium to try Proxy out ?

All sound the same to me lol

Your Rev proxy clone actually has the issue I mentioned in an earlier post where there’s a pretty significant difference in the midrange character compared to your real amp sample. Seems like 1 out of 5 of my clones has this. Then I run another clone and it’s fine.

Good feedback .... I cant imagine the crew at L6 wouldn't be all over this like the proverbial fat man at an all you can eat buffet breakfast.

Yes. Right now I have Stadium, Helix Floor, QC, and Axe FX III.

Bruce Campbell Hello GIF

If Line 6 uses user capture data to refine the process, is there any potential error for bad data if a person isn't adjusting levels appropriately or putting out "bad" clones?

Maybe I'm reading this wrong.

How accurate is Proxy compared to QC V2?
I think QC v2 slightly edges it for high-gain stuff. But this is Line 6's first outing in this area. NDSP have had years to scrape data and use it to improve their algorithm. Eric seems to be saying they'd be looking at doing a similar thing in the future.

Proxy is by no means terrible.

Are you saying it's seemingly random? Like when you run the same clone again, everything's set the same (including input level) but the resultant clone suddenly sounds better (or worse)? If so, yeah, that's odd. Pinging the team...
