Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

Packed up and going back.

I'm pretty quick in assessing amp models and I know what I like.

I hate to say it - but the Helix models sound and feel better to me. I will say that the Fenders are definitely improved as well as the Bogner XTC (I only tried the Blue Channel), but for almost everything else, I preferred the Helix (Note: I do modify 'Sag' often on Helix)

For the rest of you - enjoy! It's a total pro piece of gear and I'm sure that you'll get lots of mileage out it.

Next stop: Fractal's improved offering whatever it is.

It's your money of course, and you can do whatever you want with it. I guess I just wonder why you like their previous product and experience firsthand what a robust development life they'll give their flagships, and then completely disqualify this product because you think there is room for improvement on the Marshall, Vox and high-gain modeling right out the gate?

On the flip side, someone is going to randomly see an open-box Stadium pop up and snag it at a pretty good price....

Yep tried rebooting several times disconnecting the network and nothing helped. Not the end of the world and it's a new product so these things are to be expected. I'm really liking the unit a lot and the way it sounds. I'm sure they'll get figured out .
The stadium has an ethernet port right? Try plugging directly into your router if you have an ethernet cable.

I’ll be honest…. modelers or any guitar gear using WiFi has never been a net positive for me. Most of the time it’s a pain the ass like right now.
I didn't have trouble logging in, but had a lot of trouble downloading 1.1. The solution for me was to take the unit and put it right next to my router--mine doesn't seem happy with less than an extremely strong wifi signal.

Also, my line 6 username is not my email address. Not saying it's something you're doing, but I've been known to provide the wrong credentials when logging in.

quick take .. there is an obvious fidelity improvement. If anyone has switched to a high end headphone amp and you get a slightly rounder sound. It's like that. I don't think the sound of the models themselves seem significantly "better". However, there is a noisy/harsh kind of clutter gone from the highs. Again minor, but I do find it easier to navigate and make small tweaks for specific guitars with that out of the way. I primarily play strats and teles. So the difference between sparkle and icepick is pretty small.

So, new hardware with new converters, more headroom, more fidelity, more and better processing - yeah, cool. And then they're slapping the same old sup par LED rings in. Seriously, that's a major dissapointment, I almost have a hard time believing it, but here we go.
And let's not even talk about the lame interface performance. Yeah, it's supposed to get better - but it never got better with the OG Helix in 10 years, so I have very little trust in that.

the interface performance seems fine to me. I haven't noticed any lag that takes me out of making settings changes. The boot time "problem" is overblown. If folks can't wait 15/20 secs that's a them problem IMO.

Well, depends on what "interface performance" we're talking about. I was refering to the audio interface performance, which is still the same very sad affair as with the OG Helix.

So weird. Mine was not only fast but easy. My router is upstairs in a closet and my Stadium was downstairs in my study. But I do have a MESH wireless system so maybe that helped.

My username is also just a name, not an email address. I had logged into line6.com on my phone in advance of setup just in case I didn’t remember my password.

Got the QR code. Scanned it. Logged me right in. Prompted me to download 1.1. Said ok and it downloaded surprisingly fast. Updated and turned off/on automatically. Once back on it was basically done. Said I was up to date and I was finished.

I’m sorry for those with wifi troubles. I know that can be SO extremely frustrating - especially with a new gadget you are eager to play with.

Hope you all resolve it.

ah you meant latency. Sorry, misunderstood. I haven't measured it, but with my Aurora at 128 samples it's not giving me that off-time feel/drag. Maybe when I try to track with it things could get messier I guess. Things for another day.

Stadium RTL is about what you’d expect for a multi fx, but the RTL rarely matters anyway when you’re using the device as an amp sim.

Do you have any photos of your Stadium to demonstrate the problem? The LEDs look ok to me.

As nice as all the features like Showcase etc. are - I buy a modeler mainly for the core amp models and FX.

To me, what I've noticed over time is that the experience of authenticity with respect to amp modeling often comes to how the high-end is rendered. People say that the stuff about 7Khz doesn't matter - I disagree - all of it matters even to the much higher frequencies in terms of the 'air'. You can sense it.

I had my setup as I typically do - direct into guitar speaker cabs (so no fiddling with high cuts etc.). The guitar cabs I played through today were Bogner OS 2x12, DV Mark 4x12, PRS HDRX 112 w/ Celestion Gold - all cabs that I'm very familiar with and have had for a long time.

Something about the combination of the feel and tone (mainly upper mids to highs) did not sit right with me across multiple amp models in the Stadium. I fiddled with the Plexi for a long time and it just did not come together. There was something missing. Same with the 2203 and the AC30. I much preferred the 2203 and the AC30 in the Helix (although with the Helix AC30 - I do have to get Sag up closer to 7.4-7.8).

The Agoura Deluxe was nice - but with the Helix DR - once I have the sag closer to 8, it just feels very close to the real amp for me and I ultimately liked it better. The SLO also, I thought was better on Helix than Agoura.

Now, I will say that the Fender Twin is improved over the Helix and the Bogner XTC Blue is also quite a bit better over what they have in Helix so there is that.

But ultimately, something about the Agoura amp models gave me 'modeler' vibes - i.e. it felt like I was playing through a modeler. With Helix on the other hand, I often get that sense like the amp is right there. With models like the Cali Texas - it's next to impossible to separate from the real Lonestar.

It could all just be me - in the Signal Theory vids - Agoura sounded great. In this video which I posted earlier, Agoura more than holds itself against 3 other real amps -

I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I went through all the settings and in the end, it was not enough for me to justify the upgrade, as the Agoura amps and future Agoura drives were the big draw for me. Can they and will they improve? For sure - they have a great team. But with Helix as good as it is today, I don't feel the need to upgrade.

Once I got it close to the router the download was smooth and fast. My solution was to stick an extender in the music room. The unit/editor sometimes spontaneously disconnect and I have to manually reconnect, about 1-2 times per hour. Minor nuisance. Without the extender I couldn't even stay connected to the app for more than a minute or two.
