Oh great...now we're all going to turn into the equivalent of automotive chassis / engine code nerds - E46, E38, LS7, LT1, W126

Last I heard, convolution reverb can’t capture modulation in reverbs. If that’s still the case, then captured reverbs are probably never going to replace great reverb algorithms.

D
No it can't, but that doesn't mean you can't implement modulation into a convolution reverb.

Some do already, but I don’t think that’s going to give the same effect as the best modulated reverbs. I don’t think they are applying modulation to the input/output of the reverb, they apply it at various points in the reverb algorithm which gives pretty different results.

I think convolution reverb is as likely to make reverb algorithms a moot point as amp captures making amp modeling a moot point.

I’m loosing my musiciansfriend mind having this hardware sitting here that I’m too damn booked up to do anything with until the after the weekend.

Feels Lord Of The Rings GIF

Captured reverbs could theoretically do things convolution reverb can't.

Delayed gratification is a thing, ain't it? I wasn't able to complete my pre-order until today, which mean's I won't get it until Tuesday...where I'll plunged into your exact situation because I'll have visiting family with me the entire week.

It’s here, updated and on the pair of little laptop stand things I got….. the legs of those are tucked under the handle of 5he speaker cabinet and it seems solid.

Things I’m loving so far - almost everything tbh. Coming from a 13 year old platform, this feels like a significant upgrade in all directions…. I’ve watched lots of videos and I had a scan through the manual the other day but since its arrival I’ve just turned it on and used it…. I haven’t really struggled at all which either means I’ve absorbed a lot of info over the last few months or that it’s really intuitive - probably a bit of both. There’s stuff that I don’t know how to do yet but I’m going to spend a bit more time just playing in semi ignorance then look up anything I fail to find.

Favourite amp so far is the bassman but I need a lot more time with it before I’ll know for sure.

Focus view is great - although I’ve got a couple of valve amps, I lack experience with getting the best out of (say) an AC30 as I’ve never had one. That was one of the appealing things (to me) with my Kemper - someone who did know the amp in question captured ideal tones and I could play with minimal tweaking. But this (for me) is much better than scrolling through twenty profiles to get what’s on my mind. It’s quicker, more intuitive and it’s what’s on *my* mind, not the mind of the profile maker. It’s a nice learning tool and fun to use.

Only thing I’m not a fan of with focus - why does the circle reset to centre when you come back to a previously adjusted block? If I’m creating a preset and (for example) I drag the amp’s focus slider about an inch to the right and half inch up. It adjusts multiple parameters and I’m happy. I put on a reverb and adjust it using focus view. I now decide my amp needs a tiny tweak due to my reverb use changing the overall sound. Although all the amp parameters stay put in their adjusted states, the focus circle has gone back to the middle….. sure, I can drag it back close to where it was but ‘why does it do that’? I’m not seeing the logic of that decision.

I’d appreciate other people’s thoughts on this last point - if I’m being silly, tell me. My brain right now thinks it would be better if it stayed put.

@Orvillain Did you try it with the Mk V? I am as we speak and it sounds verrrrrrrrrry nice in 4CM. I am getting a ibt of noise but I am sure I don't have something optimized> I haven't set up channel switching yet. Yet.

I did not see a 4CM factory preset so I am making mine up as I go. Here's what I got:

Guitar---Input prefx---Send 1 to amp input
Amp send---Stadium Return 2
Postfx to 1/4 Out----Amp return

Is this the optimum config and what I should be using for 4CM, @Digital Igloo ? I have Send 1 set to instrument level and Return 2 and 1/4" Out to Line. It would be nice to be able to split the send and returns and be able to independently set the output levels accordingly.
