Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

JT, watch what @2112 does here in his "Grease Factory" setting (I have it cued up). It's a combination of Trinity Chorus, Dual Pitch and Dual and Ping Pong Delay blocks:

Yeah added dual pitch and it's good. Little too much wobble still but in the right direction. Trying to figure out to unlink the cabs from amps next so I can use this basic ass template to see what other amps will give me.

Hah, I always thought you were joking about this.
He doesn’t play about those Boss IR’s.

There’s a toggle on the right at the bottom of the amp list when you’re selecting the amp you want. Toggle it to the left and it’ll stop linking a cab.

Ahhhh! Duh! Thank you! I looked through the wiki and couldn't find the spot where that happens.

There's a "Add Cab Block" toggle off to the right when you are on the amp selection screen. Switch it off, and it'll just bring up an amp without adding a matching cab.

EDIT: @ejecta got it.

Truly Helix’s “ol’ standby” cab lol

It's a good one, but I honestly love the latest 4x12 Cartographer cab. I always use it in a dual cab configuration so I can get the C90 and Eminence Governor speakers, but the default mics on it are way too dark. Switching them dynamic mics usually helps a ton.

Once you set that as a favorite, it works with virtually any mid-to-high gain amp.

Speaker impedance curves are not currently user-selectable.

If the SIC is set by a cab, and then the cab is bypassed, does the SIC change back to the default or stay the same until / unless updated by the cab block or another cab block?

Or put another way: can you use a bypassed cab block to set the amp's SIC before going out to a power amp?

Defaults to the matching cab SIC.

So played it through my MKV ifx return into my Mesa 2x12 with C90s. Nice and fat. Through my 212 with V30s was good but it is a definite tonal shift from the semi-open back.

I don't have a "flat" power amp because I don't care about that compared to just using a bunch Mesa Boogies I have sitting in the room :satan

Two "remaining" things that I am going to try to get to this evening if time allows.
1. Figure out why I can't connect to the editor.
2. Figure out what FX I am going to want to use. Simple delay seems quite nice and basic so that's a start. Not sure on this dual pitch just yet. Need to find a chorus I like as well.

Are you using USB to connect to the editor? I am and it's working fine. I'm not sure it will connect over wifi though.

AC30 sounds way better to me. I never liked the Helix AC30 unfortunately because imo it never got the "fuzziness" I was looking for right. Always sounds either too dark or too strident I guess, and hard to get a good driven sound that sits in between, whereas an AC30 has a lot of space in between those extremes.

The 5150 sounds better to me too. I mean, I didn't love either tone, but the old one sounds pretty flat / less complex to me in a way where I think I'd want to hype up the sound more (too much). Not my space though, really, and I feel like I'd mess with the drive and master or something in both cases.

And agreed on the Deluxe. Sounds like they fixed the high end thing I never liked about most of the Helix Fenders, which is great. I bet it'll take drive pedals way better because of that alone.

What I'm hearing overall with these comparisons, and what seems especially apparent with the AC30 comparison, is that both can get good sounds, but that the Agoura models have more good / usable sounds across the range of controls. That's most important to me.
I thought JNC's video was pretty illustrative. It might be a case of confirmation bias since my Stadium XL is somewhere between here and Kansas at the moment, but I thought on all his examples, the Agoura amps sounded a little better than their OG counterparts.

The OG models sounded a little splatty (that's a very advanced technical term, I know) in comparison. I though the Agoura amps had a nice singing quality to them, both fundamental and harmonics.

I though his observation about the relative response as a function of pickup selection was really apparent, and something I have a had time coming up with a reason for.

I think it would also be nest if someone were to do a comparison between an OG preset on OG Helix and the same OG preset on Stadium since some folks have thought there are slight differences.

I noticed none of these recent videos I've watched talked much about the perceived "feel" of the Agoura models.

None of that is to say the OG Helix sounds "bad". Part of me wants to say, "... just different." But in every case my preference happened to be for the Agoura version. Maybe if JNC had done another batch in addition it may have evened out.

We’re going to make DI regret ever weighing in on the SICs. :rofl

Defaults to the matching cab SIC.

The second part of that question - whether the SIC is bypassed with the cab is an important detail. I think it will be fairly obvious to determine once we have units in hand though.

I’m with the crowd that would prefer a user facing parameter that defaults to whatever is initially appropriate for the selected cab.

Where it’s at now, switching with the cab is still A LOT better than HX.
