Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

"yeah, you turn it on and it updates itself, thankyoybyebye!"

@Digital Igloo , will the Stadiums support offline firmware upgrades as well? I have a bit of an obsession about archiving firwmare updates, and having the option to apply them without the interwebz would be nice.
Yes, today. You can also update over USB with our Line 6 Central app.
I don't really understand the gain staging / overall volume complaint? It's digital. Just gain stage so there's no clipping (or there's the amount of clipping you want), and if it's too quiet at output, just increase the volume before conversion.
I think that might've been from a bug that's been subsequently squashed.
@Digital Igloo , now that the XL genie is out of the bottle, will you show the same love for Stadium non-XL (they are both flagships according to Line 6), does the company have plans for separate videos to show how, let’s say, a lack of scribble strips works and how it changes a user flow? Thank you!
I'm guessing there will be one or more videos about Play view on Stadium. Everything else, however is so close that any other videos apply to both. The manual's for both SKUs and you can see all the Play view screens right now.

EDIT: Holy crap! I can link directly to sections in the manual now! This is the first time I've tried this. :love

I don't see how the lack of scribble strips can change a user's flow; do you think that makes a lot of difference (legitimately asking)?
That and the expression pedal are out but you gain portability so... gives & takes my 2c.

I didn't know I need them before having the OG Helix. It was something I really became attached to.

I eventually moved to a HX Stomp, made myself believe I didn't really missed them, but now with an HX Effects I'll be really reluctant to give them up in the future as far a gigging goes. Not all gigs need them, but in some I do use quite a few presets and it really does make a huge difference for me.

I normally don't rate a lot of Fluff's tones. But he's made it sound pretty damn awesome too!

I'm telling you, the Revv is soooo fucking sick. I want a real one as well.
I find a lot of his tones dated but that percussive thing he got from the Rev 120 purple sounded awesome. Really likes how focus view helped him find that tone with somewhat unusual settings.

I agree with Rhett - Fuzzes and distortions need to be improved.

Also, he mentions some issue with output levels.
Fuzz for me is the single one thing I couldn't get to sound right with the Floor. I didn't expect this to change with 1.1 but would love to see something new (Agoura?) down the line. I never had any problems with all the other dirt options though and used Helix as my standalone pedalboard for the last 8 years.

I thought I had read somewhere that Stadium automatically selects an impedance curve that matches the selected cab, and I wanted to look up how this is handled when you load your own IR instead of a factory cab. I thought you might be able to choose between different curves yourself. However, the manual does not contain any information on this, and I have not been able to find anything on this topic in any videos so far.
Yeah I'd like to know this too, since I've been used to that functionality in FAS-Land.

It's funny how opinions can differ. I never truly was happy with the amps on Helix, but the Fuzz stuff, specially the Fuzz Face - IMO - is the best digital recreation of the effect, behaving remarkably close the real ones. The way it reacts to the volume pot of the guitar is quite amazing. Of course we need to take into consideration how different the circuit can differ, but it does have all the stuff that makes me recognize the Fuzz Face thing. And you need to also be careful about the input impedance. Years ago I made this video to showcase the fuzz and the importance of the input impedance.
