Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

That's what the XY Controller screen is for—assigning whatever parameters from multiple blocks to the X or Y axis. Completely independent from Focus view.

Hello Eric,

Possibly stupid question, but I am a bit confused in this matter…

Is the “X-Y Controller Screen” something that has been specifically displayed or discussed in the Line 6 Helix Stadium marketing releases or videos? I haven’t seen anything on this, as of yet, but I might have missed it.

Cheers,
John

Unironically in The Office, Michael Scott at one point tries getting his computer to say "me love you long time" and he fucks up and it says "Me love you long Tim"

If you are on a preset and you drag your finger to a particular point on the focus view screen, you see all the controls adjust in real time.

If you leave the cursor at that point on the screen, let’s say the treble is at 5. If you then turn the treble up to 10….. what happens when you touch the focus screen cursor once more? Does your treble go back down to the original value *at that point of the screen* ? I expect that’s what it does but just curious if that’s how it behaves or something else?
There's no fancy controller scaling of any sort (by design). If you move the Focus lens, adjust a bunch of parameters with the knobs, and then move the Focus lens again, they'll snap to where they should be at that coordinate. It's meant to get you in the ballpark; tweaking with the knobs is something you'd do after Focus view, as it'll blow out your edits.
It seems the scribble strips are much clearer than the old helix. Maybe that’s just not true. I’m not sure if it’s the same or what but the resolution and the writing seems a lot more clearer with the scribble strips
The OLEDs are clearer with much higher contrast, not in small part because seeing a bunch of those bright blue rectangles in stage photos drives me nuts. The scribbles are a bit smaller than Helix Floor/Control and HX Effects tho'—1.75" diagonal vs. 2". We can also now control brightness, so bypassed stomp scribbles dim instead of switching from solid to checkerboard font.
I hope you guys haven't forgotten about USB audio in Send/ Return/ Loop blocks. (Or a dedicated equivalent.) I know, I know, "You'll shoot out your eye kid!" Let me worry about that. ;)
Not at launch.

It was shown briefly in the long forum June 11th video here. (EDIT: fixed the timestamp.) You'll notice that the axes are different from Focus zones (along each side vs. each corner plus the middle).

To assign a parameter to the XY Controller, press-hold the parameter knob and tap the X or Y axis in the popup window. (Or if the parameter panel or Bypass Controller screen is open, tap Learn and then the X or Y axis. Either way, it takes 2 seconds.

Not [USB Audio in FX loop blocks] at launch.
Yeah, you've been straightforward about this all along. Just hoping maybe it's still a "S O O N" consideration - despite your misgivings about latency, etc? I say, let the end user worry about the potential for shooting themselves in the foot (or preferably not.)

FWIW, NDSP's solution for this (their oddly-named "Transparent Blend" block) wasn't introduced until a couple of years after the QC launched, but it's been extremely useful (for me, anyway.)

I appreciate the answer - that makes sense to me :)

I see complaints coming up. "Uh-oh, Focus mode messed up my tweaks!" Could possibly be adressed by the underlying Focus parameters being auto-updated whenever you start dialing things in with the encoders. Of course the Focus mapping wouldn't work as supposed anymore in that case, but there could be a "Focus reset" function bringing it back to the saved state.

People are going to complain no matter what including that if you touched the knobs and that made the new focus parameters changing some would dislike that.

That's something we talked about, but we're trying to keep things very simple here. ("Wait, why does this zone location now sound different than before?") Besides, anything you assign to a snapshot, expression pedal, MIDI CC, or stomp switch gets blown out as soon as you engage the controller as well, so at least there's a familiar precedent.

Points taken. Yet, IMO there could be a kinda semi-hidden option or so...

Fwiw, the biggest music shop in Hannover is closing forever end of the year, so it's not likely I could ever get my hands on a unit any day even halfway close to public availability without traveling for hours (the two remaining shops defenitely won't have it in stock ever). Said so before, but we're living in electronic stoneage over here.

At least the stoneage was all analog.

I don't know if it was asked before, but what would be the best way to protect the beautiful touchscreen when playing live with the stadium?
On my Helix OG I have a acrylic display protector, which I was happy to have on one or the other occasion.
On the stadium that wouldn't work, if you want to use the touchscreen.
Will there be accessories?

I'm sure you've heard of Chad Boston if you are in the US. He had something for the QC that was a plexi top layer that had a hinge so you could flip it up. I'll see if I can find it

Well I guess the hinge design is discontinued

Yeah, who doesn't know Chad? 😅
But I thought of something more " official" and not 3rd party accessories.
If I just think of a mic or a beer falling on that big screen...ouch 🤕

Which is a big part of why I don't think touchscreens belong on floor modelers.

But since these products are designed primarily for home players... :sofa
