Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

Man, that OD1 Orange channel is like a Goldilocks Marshall tone that isn't quite covered by a JCM800 or 900 or Silver Jubilee. Juuuust the right amount of saturation and tightness without a boost.

Haven't found an exact equivalent on Helix yet, but I'm experimenting with the new 2203 and various pedals.
Yep OD1 and OD2 orange are my current favs

Would love that in the Stadium even if they did not do all channels just orange

Did I already say Agoura Revv, Recto, Mark IV or 5, EVH5153, and perhaps the Hiwatt.... and that could do pretty much every tone I would like.

... yes, I believe I did.

I’m hoping for a useful NAM file management abstraction - maybe something like being able to organize captures into N-channel amps that you can save and recall, and where you can quickly select the “channels” from your stomp view or something.

It’s helpful to not think about captures as an endlessly sprawling flat list. I need to group them in a way that makes sense with what I’m going to ask of them. I tend to think of them as channels on an amp.

I feel like I’m the only person who cares about tweed models

Nah I’m there. Tweeds are under represented and browns are non existent. Give me a brown Princeton and brown deluxe PLEASE.

We need that big graphic of all the modelers and their respective size comparisons to be updated with that two stadiums.

You looking at the Stadium XL or "normal" Stadium?

I'm assuming "normal" 😀
Yes normal.

Everytime I try something with an expression pedal attached, I regret the bigger size because I just don’t use it that much. I’d rather save the real estate and just add a pedal when needed.

I will miss the scribble strips though. But I had an LT for a while and got used to it.

From discord....

RE: Rack unit. thebishopgame says: "I'd very much like for there to be"
Someone asks whether Stadium enables hands-free pre-arranged looping. He responds "correct".
"Better than an SPD, easier to start at the certain spot, etc"
One person says they currently use an iPad and are getting into using a laptop and Logic and he responds with "You're exactly the kind of person we had in mind for this"
There is internal storage, "but big stuff goes on the card" which you can replace with any size.
USB-C is connect to a host.
USB-A is to act as a host.

"Agoura and Proxy will not be available in Native" - assuming he means current Native.
Chasis has vents.

"There are a number of complications with doing NAM in embedded hardware, since it was made to run on general PC/Mac and effectively have unlimited resources. You have to limit the model size at some point, and then the performance might not be what people think of as NAM. There’s a lot we can do with Proxy to make stuff better that we can’t with NAM."

"A bunch of the Agoura amps have multiple channels, but it just depends on the amp circuit design. The less the channels have in common electronics wise, the more stuff has to go into the model and the higher the DSP usage. So at some point we have to separate them for usability's sake."

"Yeah, I mean, I think most of us are of the opinion that if it can be done and doesn't take a monstrous effort to do so (we have to port the NAM player code to SHARC and make sure it plays nice with the rest of the system), we'd like to do it. We just don't wanna do it and then have it be meh, especially if it does take a significant investment.
Actually, maybe not SHARC. I'm not sure if we'd need to have the MCU cores run that or what."

RE: Proxy -
"It's not gonna be parametric at launch for sure, I'm not certain whether we'll ever go that direction. On top of the more complicated sampling process, you have to get into variable UI based on user defined params and HOO BOY"

RE: No EU pre-orders.
"Yeah, unfortunately this is a Yamaha thing. We had to close our EU offices when we were acquired so they handle all stuff over there."

"The stem splitting will happen in Edit, Stadium will just get the audio files and play those back. So it'll be powered by your computer, same as Logic."

"You can control Showcase transport via MIDI"

"You can send it MIDI messages to play, stop, cue a song, etc

So if you put those in your session on the laptop, yeah, when the drummer sits down and starts the song, it can start Showcase playback on Stadium at the same time. That's what you were asking for, right?"

"In case y'all didn't catch it, that video contains all the Agoura guitar amp models that'll be available at launch.

"I think we'll probably get around to all of them eventually
Agoura modeling goes faster than HX
We'll be tossing in new ones as we go as well"

RE: Using the sends as separate line outs:
"Not at launch but we're going to get that into an update"
"You can also get extra outs via Expand boxes"

I don't know why, but overnight I just got really hyped to buy one of these. Probably comes from spending some time yesterday comparing reverbs and getting frustrated by editing my Axe FX. Blerrrggghhh.

<never happy>

Proxy isn’t required in Native as you can just splice any old capture device in a DAWs effects chain. However, without Agoura though, there’s no point to it.
