Kemper Profiler MK 2

What I suggested to them - and which they promptly sh*t upon was as follows for example:-

=> pick any of the 4 pre or 4 post slots - say pre slot 2
=> in pre slot 2 you could then load x no. of effects in series ie: comp + drive + eq + mod and then scroll through them on the screen to set up each one as you want
=> then have a Midi CC assigned to each efx so you can turn any of them on/off at will.
=> even if they had added only 2 x Series EFX per slot, that would have given 8 x pre and 8 x post .. 16 in total .. more than %99.99 of players could even need

Maybe they sh*t on it because the unit didn't have the juice to do it ?
Or maybe they shit on it because it takes the best part of the Kemper workflow and sacrifices it to solve a non existent problem.

Oh FFS:

A new era of effect matrix: 20 modules in series, zero latency operation

With the addition of 7 effects modules to the PROFILER MK 2 series, up to 20 audio effects modules can now be run simultaneously with zero signal latency. It's like having a complete pedal matrix at your feet – but it only takes seconds to start, no complicated wiring, and no permanent memory required.

A New Era of Tone Simulation: Cutting-edge technology released this summer

Kemper's new Tone Simulation technology for the MK 2 Series (expected to be available this summer) is now being tested with third-party sound vendors, with breakthrough features including:

  • Precise analysis of over 100,000 frequency points: the most accurate speaker simulation in history
  • Dynamic Box Resonance Capture: The industry's longest and most complex impulse response technology is used to restore the real dynamics
  • Liquid Timbre Simulation Technology: Seamlessly integrates the gain and timbre control of the original speaker, so that a single timbre file can be transformed into a fully dynamic "live speaker".
  • Hybrid Modeling Technology: Combines deterministic analog measurement with AI intelligent analysis to achieve an unparalleled playing feel
  • MK 2 Series In-Depth Analysis of the New Effect Module: 7 Classic Pedal Functions
  • Seven new "Required Effects" modules have been added: Noise Gate (Palm Ninja), Compressor, Pure Booster, and WahWah), Vintage Chorus, Air Chorus, and Double Tracker. Combined with the original 10 modules, users can now freely configure 20 simultaneous effects chains, enjoying show-level presets right out of the box, while retaining room for deep customization.
  • Lightweight design, professional-grade rugged
  • The PROFILER Stage Mk 2 features a new lightweight aluminum that delivers military-grade durability while reducing weight, making it the most portable, full-featured Profiler device ever available.
Player users are upgraded synchronously

Please note that KEMPER PROFILER Player is already at the "MK 2 level" and will also receive free new features with the upgrade of the MK 2 series (OS 13.0 system).

Existing PROFILER Player users will receive for free:

16 Sync Effect Modules

New signal flow extensions

Timbre emulation will be added soon

Create a professional-grade performance recording solution in a compact form factor and at an affordable price.

8-channel USB direct recording

The whole system supports native 8-channel USB audio, which can achieve multi-track recording and real-time reamping without an external sound card.

Loop recording upgraded

The integrated looper has an extended recording time of up to 2 minutes, and supports real-time layered soundscape construction (Player users need to upgrade to LVL 3).

Fully optimized for performance

The startup speed, preset switching, and interface responsiveness have been significantly improved, and the performance mode is particularly smooth.
(1). Oh. I see we still haven't learned the lesson about launching while still in development stage thing.

(2). This makes the Player WAY more attractive.

(3). I don't really care about a screen, and yet that screen is like a big middle finger from CK

(4). Ugh. The clunky hardware is forgivable when it gives you a single button for each block on the front panel that immediately takes you to that block. Now we've 8 buttons with 20 blocks and oh, those 20 blocks are still limited to the 7 arrangements we're going to give you.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a redesigned version but the same specs. Like PlayStation do part way in to the cycle. Improved guts from the perspective of the manufacturer . Realistically the Kemper still holds its own in any situation. The best example of this was the Last Mark Knopfler tour. It’s still mostly the quality of the profile that matters . The software updates have improved it dramatically over the years. Still valid. I think the main problem they have is people not buying it because they don’t want to get one and six months later the Kemper 2 comes out. This would fix that too.

The Kemper was released in 2011. The Playstation 4 was released in 2013. The Playstation 5 was released in 2020.

You’re missing the point. When they are first introduced they are at the limits of what is possible at the price they have set , often more than the retail price. Then after two or three years they redesign the thing using newly available technology and reduce the manufacturing cost and usually improve the reliability. PS slim/ mk 2 etc . Functionally the same product but smaller/lighter/better performance from heat and load times. It also puts to bed the idea of imminent replacement. It would reinvigorate the product lower the manufacturing costs and require very little investment in comparison with a upgraded version 2.

Afaik the Kemper Player uses the same Motorola/Freescale DSP chip as the rest of the Kempers, which is ancient at this point. Makes me wonder how Kemper is able to squeeze more out of the Player, but not the other models.

It also has what seems to be a NXP LPC4327 processor but that's also pretty slow, even if it's about twice as fast as the NXP LPC2468 found on the old units.

You’re missing the point. I happily play FIFA on my kids old PS4 while he laughs at me. Mark Knopfler as much as I love him, choosing to use a Kemper for his final tour is not the beacon you think it is. “Even grandpa has a smartphone!!!”

I’m sure they could improve it with new components without going into a full blown new model.,

I mean the quality of the sound he was getting. Mark and his tech spent a lot of time in his studio making profiles of his favourite amps and produced bespoke profiles for each song. I assure you they are next level. Mark is ultra picky about his tone and equipment.

Oh.

The NXP processor board with memory etc is removable on the Player so maybe they could sell an upgrade for that.
But they seem to claim that it can do all that out of the box.

Makes me wonder if this is really all marketing more than anything. New modeling tech would make sense if they had Mk2 hardware that is whole new processor system, so the Player reference seems strange.

I think the idea of a redesign is more likely.

Congrats. When grandpa got his smartphone he discovered all sorts of corners of the internet he never knew existed before. His discovering them did not make them new.
Are you really that dumb. 50+ years experience and a phenomenal player with superb tone and you really think that?
The reason they didn’t take the usual route of three high end tube amps and pedals/ rack was unpredictably and varied performance you get in different parts of the world with tubes. He wanted the same player experience wherever they went .
His tech suggested they try a Kemper to see if it could be used. Mark being the pro he is was only going to use it if he was 100% happy with the results.

So all it takes to get a good sound out of a unit is 50+ years experience and a dedicated audio tech.
I'd rather capturing tech just work as expected for everyone (like its supposed to).
No but I am saying that the best profiles are still capable of getting more out of the unit as is.
