Line6 Helix - Oh yeah, five delays of any variety? Nice. Reverbs are a bit cack. Hey.... this Revv model is pretty great! This works really well in 4cm with my amp... tiny bit of extra latency that I can feel... but.... <proceeds to use it for 6 years in his live rig>

Fractal Axe3 - Oh, I select an amp, I use the ideal page, I set it up like I would a real amp, I select an IR, oh fuck, forgot to add an input block... oh shitty mcshittens I forgot to add an output block too, okay.... virtual wires now is it? Okay.... this is now sounding pretty damn good!

Kemper Profiler - This stock profile sounds like honky bullshit. This other stock profile sounds like honky bullshit. People rave about M Britt... I'll grab one of his... no... honky bullshit... okay... profile my own amp... wtf is this.. the mids are completely different.... is it my DI box? Is it how I refined? Is it my ears? This sounds cack....

NeuralDSP Quad Cortex - <1 hour later> ... okay, finally got the latest fucking firmware installed and running.... lets add an amp... anemic cleans? Why?? Add a high-gain amp... that sounds good.... profile an amp... better than Kemper ... looper is great.... delays are meh... reverbs are better than Helix .... not a bad unit.... I could totally see me using this on a board with a real amp in 4cm...oh....wait... it sounds like a fucking iPod Nano from 2009.... NEXXXXTTTT!

We just want instant perfection at a reasonable size and price that will satisfy all sorts of different people with different gear, intelligence levels, and talent. I really think they are holding out us. Theres gotta be one in the back that makes me sound like every legendary album that I grew up on.

My first day trying to use the scroll wheel in Hx edit/native

Yamaha DG80 back in the late 1990s. "Hey that previous guy that tried it got some great Dream Theater sounds out of it! I gotta check it out! Oh shit what did I press? Why are the knobs moving on their own? Did I break it? Is it haunted? Should I run for the door?" There was zero indication it had motorized pots. I did not even know such a thing existed...

Boss GT-6. "Oh cool, it has all kinds of features, so many effects! Wait, why is this so annoying to use? This doesn't sound half as good as the Yamaha DG!"

Axe-Fx Standard. "Ugh, this is kind of a pain in the ass to use from the front panel. Thank god for Axe-Edit! But it sounds really good! I should sell my tube amps!" I had an Egnater Tourmaster 4100 stack and a Diezel Einstein 50 combo at the time.

Took the day off work when I knew it was getting delivered because I had waited a straight decade to be able to purchase an AxeFX. Brought the boxes inside and just stared for a minute and shed some happy tears. It was a long road from the first AxeFX announcement up to me purchasing a brand new III and receiving it in my new house, it was a marker of how far I’d come and meant way more to me than a box of sounds.

Got it all plugged in and plugged my JEM into it and start going through the presets-

“Uh…..I didn’t expect factory presets to blow me away but ……these aren’t even getting close to good”

Then I built my first and had my confidence restored.

Don’t test new gear with Dimarzio Evolutions, the EQ curve is way too much to be natural acros the board

Tonex - spend six hours trying to figure out the order of installing all the installers and product updaters and registration and signing up for everything, only to have everything not work when you fire it all up. Then go look for help online and see that IK's forum has been down for several days. So you have to piece everything together off random old Reddit responses.
