Katana mk3 coming?

Rhythm guy in one of my bands picked one up, used it last Monday night rehearsal. Sounded pretty good to me. And he did all the presets from the panel, has yet to dive into BTS.

I would be talking the guy out of using the Carvin as well :bag :rofl

Tone Studio is a rabbit hole full of rabbit holes: https://articles.boss.info/getting-started-boss-tone-studio-and-katana/

Congrats on the good deal!

Our new guitar player has the Katana head and we're trying our best to talk him out of using it in studio. Sounds fine in practice, but our other guitar player has a Carvin V3 that cuts like a wide, hot knife and buries the Katana if we're not careful. Can't imagine the Katana head is going to do anything other than fade into the background like Jason Newsted on ...Justice. Thankfully, the studio has a rack full of all the regular beloved faces of tube amp Ville. 5150, Dual Recto, PRS Archon, ENGL 6505, etc...
I am just a home player now so the katana will be fun to goof around with… if i find a cheap mk3 in the future i may get it and link both together for stereo use of egfects as ithink thats possible?

the typical "homeplayer" of the 2020's, its also important to blend in a typical childhood hobby collectible collection of toys... spiderman, transformers, he-man and such.

Believe it or not, I actually got a pretty decent tone out of a Carvin V3M…….

By running it on the clean channel, and putting an Angry Driver into it.

They gave me the 50W Katana combo for under my tech desk. I gave it back to them about a week after. What a POS.
They ordered me a Yamaha THR 30II instead and it has been much better.

To each their own. I’ve never understood the fascination with the Yamaha THR stuff. They sound like little shitboxes.

Well....it's not a big sound for sure. But the Katana MK3? I think the head with a good cab would be fine but...the 50 combo sounds like a sizzle box.
In any case, I didn't have much choice though....

I asked for a Soldano but they didn't approve my request (It's ok though....I have 2 of them at home)........and it would be a cold day that I would give another $$$ to anything Positive Grid or should I say Positive skid ;)

The 50 is definitely the worst of them, but the 100 and 100 Artist sound good.

The Mk3 100w combo experience did not go better for me. It is BEYOND me, why such little amps are always open back. That makes them sound bad for higher gain sounds IMO. I wrote it somewhere (in this thread?), that the Mk3 Katana (an in my case a 100w combo) had a wack mid I could just not dial out. Every time I dialed in a higher gain sound and palm muted I made a "face" bc there was this kind of "bleh" in the sound, that should not be.

ALSO: I have NEVER encountered a worse BT adapter and app, than the Katana one. Half of the time it did not connect to my Samsung Galaxy (phone or tab) and when it did the app was absolutely bullshit. I could compare it to a NUX Mighty Plug Pro, that seems to have the absolute best BT functionality for ~100 Eur.

As usual, it depends on what kind of music you're playing. I wouldn't want to play metal on a 50 watt Katana or a THR30 (although I've done it effectively on my THR100HD with a closed back speaker cabinet). For a lot of straight ahead non-metal rock, the Katana Artist Mk2 that I have is great. My Nextone Special gives me a broader range of clean to lower gain sounds to dial in, and it is excellent with pedals. For both BOSS amps, the Waza speakers make a big difference over other models in the range. They're really good, to my ears.

Yup...that was the other issue, big time! The BT connection for that amp was absolutely the worst. It's weird though because I don't have the same issue with the same connector on the Waze Core unit that I have on the Soldano. All works perfectly and doesn't disconnect.
