Blackstar Beam Solo plug-in modeller

I want one of these especially given my recent headphone investments but between them and the NUX AAS, I’m tapped out on toys for right now.

I think I'd rather just get another POD Express. I really miss that, and have no idea why my dumbest of asses sold it.
I sold mine and I miss it as well. I pretty much didn’t touch my hx stomp pedalboard for the couple months I had it. But I missed retro reel and harmonic tremolo, I didn’t get much use out of the modulations in the PE.

It was on sale for $129 recently and I almost bought it again. I still might at that price because it’s nice having something that runs on AA batteries and sounds so good.

Just checked amazon…

I bought one at that price. And returned it. Perhaps those deeply involved with L6 can easily get great tones from it.

I’m still trying to figure it out. Great price though!

There’s this dumb little feature from my Korg Pandora that I used all the time and keep waiting to find on one of these headphone amps. On the Pandora there was a pitch shifter on the Aux input, so when I’m learning a song in a different key I didn’t have to think about transposing.

The foldable plug is for convenience. These aren't high end modelers. I have the NUX MP3. It is a fun and decent sounding headphone amp. It doesn't compare to my floor modeler but it only cost ~$100. These units are a niche product. Easy to carry, no extra cable necessary, just plug it in and play.

High end modeling has got nothin’ to do with it, I’d have to be paying attention to that plug nonstop when sitting on my couch, especially if it were on on a Les Paul and more so if it doesn’t require a lot of pressure to get the body swinging from the jack itself. It’d be a bummer to sit down and or put my guitar down and break it because it swung open.

I wish it were a strap mount with plugs.

Just get a 5.00 pouch for a wireless guitar dongle and a 5.00 extension cable. Problem solved. Since it can be controlled by a phone you don't even need to use the physical buttons on it.

I got it to make lazy practice more convenient and I think it sounds pretty good for exactly what it is. Took a few tries to get the Bluetooth audio to work right and I still can’t get the metronome to play through the headphones, but I can see it being a pretty handy practice tool. The “Ampton” amp models sound pretty good, but they’re not ever interactive. Gain at 2 versus 10 on the 5150 sounds the same but noisier. It’s a little annoying that the multifunction dial defaults back to volume if you don’t use it for a little bit. I would think preset changes would be a more useful default. I mostly got it to encourage practice away from the setup in the basement. We’ll see how long the GF wants to deal with that, lol.

I keep convincing myself I need a headphone amp to practice on the couch but every time I think through the reality of it, I realize I’m just going to get banished back down to the basement anyway.

I’m trying to work in the argument of it doubling as a backup rig as a justification for my gas.

Anything that could be a backup rig for me would be way more than I want to deal with for couch practice. At this point I literally can’t play a show without an Expression pedal.
