Katana mk3 coming?

Well today at gc...i tried out a used katana ver 2 2-12 combo. It was in amazing shape with the foot controller..I used to have the 1-12 mk1 when they were released and sold it to fund the artist series mk1..i thought the original katana in mk1 sounded better then the artist nk1 and returned the artist...
Fast forward to today...saw t and tried it for like an hour in the amp room and didnt see anything wrong with it...its cosmetically 9/10..it was 199.99 so i bought it but cant pick up till 4/2 because of the law here on used stuff to check if stolen. Anyhow while playing it did sound pretty good for what it is.

I have a MkII Artist that I really like. The trick for me was to stop approaching it like my AxeFX (where I would start with a specific sound in mind, then dial it in), and simply start with one of the amp models and turn knobs until something cool came out.

Yes I realise playing around with it today. How easy it is to get a good tone out of it and how the effects without even deep diving or like pretty impressive I wish it was a 212 stereo lamp but still with the 212s I think it sounds prettymuch wider than when I had the 112 if I remember correctly.
Yeah I got some good sounds out of it immediately and I’m not sure if I can hook up my iPhone to it or if there’s an app for it remotely on Bluetooth I’m not sure about any of that stuff yet. I just jumped at it because it was only 199 bucks.

so i bought it

That's how I use my MkII Artist (not to mention my Nextone Special), too.

Didn’t they just release a MK2 like a year ago?

I had to check, because it really felt like they did, but no: the Katana MKII series was announced back in 2019 (!!!)

I kinda like Boss' approach of small incremental updates: it keeps their product line fresh, and doesn't screw preexisting Katana owners, which are really not missing much by not upgrading.

Tone Studio is a rabbit hole full of rabbit holes: https://articles.boss.info/getting-started-boss-tone-studio-and-katana/

Congrats on the good deal!

Our new guitar player has the Katana head and we're trying our best to talk him out of using it in studio. Sounds fine in practice, but our other guitar player has a Carvin V3 that cuts like a wide, hot knife and buries the Katana if we're not careful. Can't imagine the Katana head is going to do anything other than fade into the background like Jason Newsted on ...Justice. Thankfully, the studio has a rack full of all the regular beloved faces of tube amp Ville. 5150, Dual Recto, PRS Archon, ENGL 6505, etc...

I’ve never personally found USB-B even remotely sturdy compared to USB-C.
My armchair thoughts...The B connectors length and stout diameter provides a nice fulcrum to induce stress between the port and board connections causing a more expensive failure point rather than a smaller USB-C type connector where the cable is more likely to be the point of failure.

I could be wrong and maybe we just don't have data from enough USB-C failures due to it being "newer".

I wish all new connectors were tested under this type of environment…

I would be talking the guy out of using the Carvin as well :bag :rofl

I had the artist combo and guessing it was the speakers, but I didn’t like it anywhere near as much as the non-artist Katanas Ive had.

I think the BOSS Waza speakers (green in the Katana Artist, blue in the Nextone Special) warrant more attention. They're really good sounding speakers to my ears, and they help cement the amps not as "nail the sounds of 30 amps" devices, but rather as "dial in sounds you like from a range" devices - which is how I use them. I can't say I've ever even attempted to make either one sound like a Marshall, a Fender, a Vox, or whatever.
