What timing with both of you posting about doing 4,3 inch versions! I got the Zero home tonight and swiftly got a power cable sorted. Was pretty easy to follow instructions and flash the unit (had a Windows computer available) with the .exe provided from the project. I messed up the WiFi settings (didn’t change to ”Station”) so had to turn off my home WiFi to correct it…

After that I managed to connect my BOSS FS-1-WL by typing in the ”custom name” on the BT tab on the web UI. Everything works and it was really straight forward so I’d totally recommend this project to anyone with a BT MIDI controller.

The mobile interface is of course a bit crude UI wise but totally workable, pretty responsive and quick. No complaints!

I’ve set up my BT controller like this using cable to HX Stomp:

FS1-3: Tonex preset 1-3, HX Snapshot 1-3
FS4-5: Tonex preset 4-5

With that I have 3 different amp+post FX Snapshots and can enable/disable FX directly on the Stomp to suit my flavor of the day. Then I’ve got two additional Tonex amps on FS 4+5 when I’d like a different flavor. I think I’ll be happy with this, and both the Stomp and Tonex pedals are off the floor as well in my setup. Plus with the mobile web UI it’s super easy to set up the Tonex pedal for stand-alone mode if I want to switch rooms and just do a super light, battery-powered solution. Or to change how the presets are numbered.

I’ll probably look into 3D-printing a small case for the Zero to protect it. Can easily see this being a great solution to stick underneath a pedalboard!

So, you can't polish a turd they say.
Just that sometimes you can.
Quick demo of how this setup works, it's really just about 2 things:

1) Even with the GT-1000 Core controlled from the Hotone Ampero Control, then passing MIDI to the Pirate MIDI Pico, which will then convert the message to be suitable for the Tonex One, switching is incredibly fast and gapless (you can see that I'm even switching inmidst of a held chord).

2) There's delay and reverb spillover.

You'll also be able to see how I can easily manipulate patch 1 to become a lead variation.



Waiting for a bunch of patch cables to replace the ugly yellow/white ones (will likely take until tomorrow, grr...), then everything will be secured with cable ties, some rubber feet will be added and then on to some rehearsals and shows. Should be great.

I got the 4.3b up and running during a conference call. Honestly, the most difficult part of the process was getting my old Windows desktop that hasn't booted in a year to see a blue tooth mouse! Otherwise, it was super simple. I wired up a 9v female port to the first two pins (4.3B only!!! others need 5 volts!), and then followed the instructions on this page to do the software load and configure it to be a wifi client: https://gsus4.com.au/blogs/news-promo/what-if-there-was-a-screen-for-ik-tonex-one-step-by-step-guide and DONE!

From there it is just give it power, connect to a Tonex One and it just works! I am actually powering it (and the One) with a USB to 9v cable and a battery right now and it seems to be working really well. It is interesting that there is a bit of a lag for the screen to update to changes, but the Tonex One is reacting very quickly. I will try to get a case designed and printed this weekend or over the holiday, but I am still deciding if I want to add switches on the box or external, or keep it switchless and just use the screen, phone/iPad, and midi over BT. I will definitely be ordering a couple of Zero's to make smaller lower power draw versions to stick under my pedal boards. I think I should be able to make a decent portable board out of a PT Nano+ with one of these, the One, a few analog pedals and power all off a battery bank for a super portable rig.
