Yeah, both a boost and eq are so basic that im pretty shocked it is not in tonex somewhere.

Well, you need to keep in mind that there's CPU limits. And originally, there's even been way less than now (I think the delay and modulation FX have been added with an update, or so...). So I'm not exactly complaining. I rather wish they'd get their software cleaned up.

There is the compressor and the gain knob. You can also use a physical pedal which Tonex does very well IMHO. There currently is no way to do a capture of a dirt pedal into a capture of an amp without two Tonexes.

Yeah, found that folder already. I gather that, once placed in the respective folder on my old Mac, they will automatically show up in the Tonex Modeler's training department, right?

Oh f*** - I just looked, my old Mac Pro is still on Mojave. No way to install the Modeler software there. I may one day patch it up via Open Core, but right now I absolutely don't feel like.

Open Core works pretty well. My son did it to his Mini, and got all the way to whatever the last version was. His is a 2014 Mini.

Anyone own the boutique pedal collection? I only use an sd1 and Maxon 808x with my tube amp usually (or tonex captures of these pedals).

But since there's many free packs with the group sale I wonder if the you guys think these collection pedals are useful. I only know the morning glory from the pack; never heard of the other pedals.

I play from rock to pretty heavy metal. And a lot of leads. The tube amp I use these days is a Harley Benton tube 15 Combo. Sd1 and Maxon used mostly as pure boosts (well I do use some drive from the sd1) for Zack Wylde style tones ATM.

Yeah, I know, it's not rocket science anymore. My 2010 Mac Pro however might require some more attention (at least that's what I seem to remember). I'll look for some "Open Core for dummies 101", though, as I'd really like to take some captures of whatever it might be - and it's a pain on this MBA.

Sure - but if I use boosts, I rather like to switch them freely. Anyhow, it's nothing I really need anyway, I've got little plans to use the Tonex One just on its own (unless it's for single sound gigs).

While I guess this isn't possible to do on the One without (maybe?) one of those foot controllers designed specifically for it, with the big Tonex I haven't felt the need to have a (clean) boost pedal vs just switching between two gain values with an external footswitch, effectively achieving the same thing as a flat boost.

It's easy to setup via an expression pedal (and I believe this lets you set it on a per-preset basis), but even easier if you have a MIDI controller (with the potential downside of having to sync MIDI controller / Tonex presets up if you have a different base gain level across different Tonex presets).

With my MIDI setup, which currently uses an HX Stomp as the MIDI brain, I have two footswitches setup: one for a gain boost, and another that gives a mid boost and slight low cut (I have the EQ set to pre on all of my Tonex presets), so I can trigger them separately or together for different effects.

There isn’t. But you can use the compressor pre and use it as boost.

So I tried several of the tonex collection packs from the group sale. So far the brown sound ones are amazing for what they do. Astonishing Van Halen style sounds. I wont be using these to play Van Halen riffs as much, but they are great tones to use.

The rest I got so far, not really impressed. The Gus G one had me go ".. wait, really?..". It seems to be the usual thing: a lot has to do with the guitar, tuning, set up. My own captures unsurprisingly fit me much better, as does tweaking the fractal. Not that this is news for me.

Maybe some other packs work better.

It’s so dumb that Tonex doesn’t have an EQ pedal or boost. Instead it just has a thing that allows you to raise levels (EQ or compressor) and a thing that changes spectral content and can be placed before or after the amp model.

Off topic but so far the best amp I've found on there for metal is a Fortin Natas (NTS) with Hex by user atermori

We're all learning, no sweat. If you have the opportunity to work with the software editor, its a little more clear that you can move the EQ placement, etc. Just takes some exploration.

- When using another patch, adjustments to the amp will have to be done twice whenever you think it needs to be globally altered.
- You might have used the EQ for the basic tone shaping already.

If these things were a little different, I'd likely bought an Airstep TX or one of the Pirate MIDI offerings already.
If there was at least an easy high/low-cut option in the cab section, the EQ would be a lot more useable, as you could then switch it to pre and still have an option to, say, tame excessive boom or shrillness. As is, I defenitely need the EQ for these tasks alone. And as said, it's not switchable.

Got the ENGL pack. Now that's great also imo, for my tuning, pickups, etc. The feel of some of these captures is solid, better than I expected.

Ok, this is tough to explain, but here we go:

- I imported a tone model with cab.
- Replaced the cab with an IR.
- Tried to go back to the tone model's cab.
-> fine.

- Replaced the cab with an IR again.
- Loaded another tone model /w cab.
- Went back to the previously imported tone model and tried to exhange the IR in favour of the original tone model cab.
-> I can *only* load the tone model cab of the last imported tone model.

Tried this multiple times. You can always only revert to the tone model's cab that you imported last. That's a pretty serious bug IMO.

Edit: Even if I delete the last imported preset, this is still the cab option you get when trying to revert to the tone model cab on other presets.

FWIW I’d love to see a legit boost or even a slim collection of 3-4 drive pedals in its own fx block. That would be a great addition to Tonex. I’m not holding my breath.
