They specifically advertise that the pack includes DI's so that you can go direct to your own cab. It is in the web text and they call it out in the videos.

The answer is yes, the packs include captures without the cabs specifically for what you want to do.

BTW, if you don't know, you can currently buy one of the Brown Sound special editions and get two of the three packs included at a discount to buying them separately.

The 78/79 list on their website shows no DI packs. The other 2 haven't even launched yet.

Did they say how many DIs?

I'm thinking that is only available on the Tonex One, whereas I'd rather have the Tonex (the full version pedal). Please I have a $299 offer on Reverb I may take advantage of.
 
Maybe there is some confusion between the "raw" versions and amp only versions? Really interested, but I don't care much for FRFR options (FRFR speakers, monitor speakers, etc).
 
I have the first Brown Sound pack and there are no DI type captures in it. Not sure why people think there are but, no, I would not recommend it for use with a cab due to that.
 
There are many fine DI captures available that can do VH through a similar cab to which ever vintage of VH you're going for, try these vendors...

Amalgam
Mattfig
Hammerspace Recording

...as all include both full and DI captures, and all sound good IME.

You want a Marshall or modded Marshall style amp, or a Peavy style EVH styled amp, and if you need more gain for the Plexi early stuff you can add front end boost with the ToneX's compressor or an external boost within reason.

Finally actually ordered a Tonex after going between it and the Nano Cortex. Having a little buyer's remorse tbh, as I appreciate certain aspects of the NC more, but I got an excellent price on a new Tonex (which is normally cheaper anyway), so I'm ultimately looking forward to it.

So, while I wait for it to arrive, a follow-up question on the input clipping: how do people who do have that issue mitigate it? Are you just lowering the volume with a pedal or something before the Tonex input, and then using the Tonex's input trim (etc) to bring it back up internally / post-conversion-but-pre-capture?

When I did run into some issues with clipping the HX Stomp with boosts / fuzzes, I just did some gain staging like that (final pedal before Stomp turning the volume down + Stomp input pad + Gain block in the Stomp bringing level back up before the amp block) to get around it at the expense of a little extra noise, but I'm curious if there are any other strategies I'm not thinking of. Thanks!
 
I wish I could speak intelligently on the clipping but I haven’t experienced it. I’m mostly using vintage spec single coils and average output PAFs so I suspect it just hasn’t come up.

Regardless, it’s a gain staging problem. You can try lowering the input level, or dropping the gain knob down. Or throw something in line before the Tonex to knock a couple db off the guitar. An EQ pedal might be an option.
 
I don't have the issue either. I tend to play vintage output pickups but I don't clip with my new EVH either. I also use light strings and a lighter touch with my right hand I guess.

That said, I would use something like an EQ pedal or a volume pedal to knock the signal level down a bit. Or maybe lighten up your attack a bit?

Thanks! Yeah, I don't expect to have an issue either (I have similar pickups and I think a fairly light attack), but it's supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I'll see soon!
