Anyone tried one of these? Sounds killer.

Dude's using one here:

Ghost is that you?

I know Electroharmonix makes a few pedal power amps as well if it interests you

Who's Ghost? I've tried the EHX ones and wasn't too impressed. Don't need it right now but it looks intriguing. He's got some really cool other gadgets too like this one.

As a cheap and lightweight power amp I'd take this over anything else:
More than double the power, almost half the price and it has a built-in PSU. I've had it for a couple years now and it's been solid, plus it sounds pretty close to my diy icepower (basically what's inside the SD PowerStage).
Sure, it's a bit larger than a standard pedal but it's worth it imho.

Does it have a fan and does it run constantly? That's what I disliked about the PS170 with the Ice module.
It doesn't have a fan and it has never cut-off the signal for overheating, but I guess the latter depends on how hard you push it.

Btw, not even an icepower board really needs a fan if you put it in a large enough enclosure with some vents. Mine doesn't have it and it's been working fine for 4-5 years.

Class D, so likely 60W at 4 ohms, which would mean around 30W at 8 ohms, and 15W at 16 ohms.

Might be ok for some applications if you've got the right cab.

My normal home playing volumes never exceed ~75-80dB in a 10 x 12 room. It won't even break a sweat into the 1 x 10 Boogie cab.

I think I’m going to get my hearing checked. Or maybe I’ve just been fortunate with fans; I’ve heard people gripe about the AxeFX III’s fan and now the PS170, I can’t hear shit coming out of either. Sometimes I have that thing on from 9am until midnight when I’m falling asleep, it’s chest level on top of my cabs that I have to walk by to go anywhere in my apartment, the III is ear-level in my studio, I can’t hear shit!!

I can’t hear shit!!

It's more a problem of the ambient sound levels in my current situation. Ridiculously quiet area and there's no noise around the house most of the day. Like dead quiet. The plus side is that jamming at 75dB is loud enough to feel good. Down side is I can hear a mouse fart.

Similar here. I can never identify w/ fan noise complaints. All the fans on all of my sh*t could be broken for all I know. I cannot hear fans with a radius of less than a foot or so. :p

Semi-serious comment: If you ever do go to have your ears checked... prepare yourself mentally for potentially negative outcomes. It can be a surprisingly depressing experience.

I do not doubt that a single bit! Fortunately, I used to be overly cynical and feel it left me with the ability to receive bad news without much detriment!

Same. And I had to call an exterminator. Seriously.
