438 rather than 440?

Try playing in a band with a mandolin and banjo where staying in tune for the introduction is a good performance. That’s Folk for you.

I have occasionally nudged the tuning wheel on my JTV, so it isn’t always the other two

I've been separated from my LT for 2 months until yesterday. With all the Stadium/Agoura talk I was interested in firing it up. Normally once I have a few presets I like I fall into the habit of "just playing" through the preset rather than trying analyze the model tone. But I wanted to go back to judging the tone for a bit.

What I figured out is it sound very much better than my POD Express I use in the woods (and for what it is, it's actually quite good, and that's not a diss). And within my subjective universe of perception, it sounds objectively good. Or at least the patch I made around the 2203 model. The feel thing is harder to gauge. For the last couple years it's been a steady diet of Helix for me. It feels fine to play, but it's also what I'm used to. Even if I get gobsmacked by Stadium, I really don't see myself getting rid of the LT.

First world problems, but I've really been putting the EVH and Bogner Ecstasy through their paces trying to imagine where the Agoura versions might improve them.....

.....then I stumbled back into the Badonk factory patch, and uh.... it's amazing. Shot it out against a lot of my FM9 faves including JVM OD1.

Right up there. Tons of clarity, saturation, tightness....all the things.

THEN, I swapped out the factory cab for the York Audio Zilla pack, specifically the Creambacks. SHEESH. It's maddening, but Line 6 Originals are amazing and cover so much ground.

Maddening because I see myself getting my Stadium and using the existing originals as much if not more than the Agoura amps.

Same here with the originals, they work really well! I’ve been setting up a preset on my Stomp with the Kinetic. I’ve previously mostly used Oblivion and Clarity together in a preset and enjoyed the low DSP of them.

Now with Kinetic I mapped gain, channel volume and boost changes to a footswitch and boom, full range of clean to high gain (with an extra OD for flavor) footswitchable like a two channel amp. Since it’s just three snapshots on the Stomp it feels easier to me to just do footswitch assignments with min and max values and treat it like preset-switching individual pedals instead. Same with reverb and delay. I got everything I need (for home playing) into one Stomp preset and if I’m using my real amp I just turn off the amp and IR blocks.

Really looking forward to a Stadium Stomp but since I’m late to the party the old gen stuff is still impressing me.

This is where I’m at as well. When I first got my stomp, I found that I liked Tonex better because the sound was already set up but now that I’m digging into the HX I’m discovering what everyone knew all along.

I’m still pretty much a helix noob so the Stadium is probably going to be underused by someone like me.

I'm a long time Helix user and no stranger to their original models, but even I forgot how wonderful most of them are - especially the newest ones.

I'm a modded Marshall fiend, so I spend more than my share of time salivating over clips from Friedman Jose amps or Monomyth Skeleton Key or whatever the new flavor is.

I spent an hour last night just with the Line 6 Voltage playing around with the Boost, Gain and Sag settings while A/Bing against clips from those amps and others through the same monitoring system.....

.... couldn't believe I could recreate almost every one. That model is really a multiple channel (assuming you set it up with Snapshots) Marshall powerhouse because it has such a wide range of tones in it from vintage to modern filth.

I did the same with the Oblivion and some Mesa Mark high gain tones. It's frickin insane how many great tones there are in the Line 6 Originals. I really hope the Stadium presets do a better job of highlighting this because the HX presets do NOT.

I bought the HX FX in 2020, then switched to the full-size Helix Floor in late 2023, and it wasn't until a couple weeks ago that I started cranking the output volume and using the amp block to dial in the general volume.

Tbh, it improved the overall response/dynamics big time, to the point where I probably couldn't hear any difference to a real amp if they're set to a close-enough sound.

Interesting, so you’re using the channel volume on the amp block to control the output level?

Is there a reference of all the Line 6 original amps and an explanation of what they are?

I know some like the litigator, but others are mysteries.

Helixhelp.com lists them but didn't really tell you about them. (E.g. modded plexi with hiwatt biased hot - or whatever)

Depends on the setup, but if I'm running into a power amp, yes.

EDIT: also in from of a real amp, but with the 1/4" outputs set to instrument level

Not a centralized one that I know of anyway. Really it's a shame.

They have some centralized copy about the latest six because they wrote those descriptions when they first appeared in the Catalyst amps. Also, I think they did a video on the Elmsley. But some of them like the Fatality.....details are a lot sketchier.

I really really really wish they would go on record in detail about the Voltage in particular, especially about the boost function. I think it does more than just add gain or mids. Sounds like the voicing changes some too.

That’s what they say about the boost on Kinetic in a video, that it changes the mids voicing to bring it forward instead of a traditional boost. Maybe it’s the same on Voltage?

Ok. thx. Maybe @Digital Igloo may know of a resource explaining the Line 6 originals?
