Nah, Chad is one of the kindest, most humble, most authentic people I know. His FB group has quite a few rules that they enforce, but it can all be distilled down to "Don't be disrespectful."

There are dozens of other spaces where one can spew pretty much whatever they want with little to no accountability. Anyone giving Chad grief for helping foster an actual helpful place where people respect each other (which is a big reason why it's been so successful) makes Digital Igloo a sad panda.

True. People who can’t handle someone being a dick and needing mods to enforce the rules make groups boring to be in I think I read once that Drew likes to let this place moderate itself and let the masses attack the dickheads

Like I said, I’ve never had a personal issue. Sometimes his responses to things in various places come with a high level of “do you even know who I am?” IMO.

Yeah, there's definitely an art form to forum interaction and I'm not above finger painting with . Chad's group has a lower threshold of pushback, which keeps topics on target (which makes it more welcoming, especially for beginners), but yeah, I can see how it might feel more like silencing dissent. There's always a fine line, but it's not our group and I don't make the rules.

Regardless, lately I tend to post here more than most places.

It's actually the most sensible thing to do if someone is renowned for exhibiting certain behaviours.
As someone who runs communities myself, I only do this in exceptional circumstances and usually prefer letting people show themselves up first before deciding to moderate so heavy handedly, but I am all in support of nipping things in the bud if it really is easier.

I mean, I think sometimes it's a sensible decision IF someone has spent 20 years online being abrasive.
The last thing you want is to let your guard down and be a wimp, in those circumstances.
No one should let a person into a play ground if they aren't safe around children.
