Helix Stadium wishlist

If I were looking for small perks that would give me that warm and fuzzies, here are a few dumb ideas I’ve had:

  1. Battery voltage parameter on fuzz/dirt
  2. Tube/component age parameter on amps
  3. Tube type parameter on amps that support it
  4. Bright cap values on amps
  5. Revision parameter on amps (recto rev F/G)
  6. Change mic environment (room, booth, stage, etc)
  7. Change mic preamp (API, Neve)
  8. Change speaker age
This is probably more Fractals break and butter but I’d love to see L6 add some depth here.

Helix can already switch amp channels etc. I use it with my Mark III, Budda, and Recto all the time. Were you having trouble there?

I’m totally with you on the others. I’ve had BIG noise issues mixing HXFX and Helix fx loops with basically any high gain scenario and I don’t even use a ton of gain. I’m frankly not sure if that’s been addressed, but it severely limits where and how I can use Helix, which is in part why both my hardware devices have been sitting in boxes for months.

Day one with Stadium XL I will be introducing its loops to my amps. If there are noise issues, it goes back immediately and I move on. At $2k+ those just aren’t issues I’m willing to tolerate.
No. I never used the HX stuff with amps, only direct. I'm hoping what I would assume are improved converters will help FX clarity in the Stadium. Agreed completely on your last statements. Modeling and FX quality are already nailed with the FAS stuff for me. The Stadium will have to be easy to move around and change configurations with my amps and be low noise for me to be able to justify it.

Yeah I’m totally with you. The improvements in those dynamic range stats were a HUGE part in my pre-ordering. DI has mentioned that it’s a noticeable improvement even on the current gen models, which is neat and I’m excited to hear it, but it’s really about noise for me right now. I suspect this may uniquely be the case for those of use combining Hx with high gain amps.

More original amps and FX, maybe not based on antique analog designs.
Input dynamics parameter modulation with adjust curves.
An iteration the lands under $1k but isn’t HX Stadium Express level of gimped.

Right now, analog pedals and amps are what I play at home. I have been messing around this past week with the FM9 in 4cm but it's kind of a slog messing with my gigging rig and then having to change everything back to what it needs to be to do all direct gigs.

If it passes that initial test; I am also curious to see how fx Focus Zones work with my amps. I think that will be an unexpected hit for me. We'll see.

John Cordy, and one of his videos thinks that six months after the release the price will drop on the stadium in the stadium XL but for some reason, I just don’t see that happening and he uses the Quad cortex and the fender TMP as examples of companies that drop their prices Six months or eight months after release do you guys think this is possible with line 6?
Depends. Are the [things we're not supposed to discuss] going away?

This!
And more unusual FX, like really great filters and wild delays.

Going to amplify this at every turn. I'm good on bread and butter FX for the moment (possibly excepting the fuzzes, but I almost never use that effect so I have no dog in that fight), and I really want a wide buffet of new synth-y, super modulated and otherwise esoteric reverbs, synths/filters and delays.

Make as many parameters accessible as possible too, because we want these to be flexible toolboxes of sound design.

On the wish list topic….. it’s an odd one for me as my only Helix experience is having a two week trial licence of Native and so I’m less familiar with the things that are carrying over from that platform than many of you here. So it’s difficult to know what to wish for - I think I’m going to have more than enough to keep me going with what will be in it at launch and what’s coming next year (in terms of showcase and proxy). I guess ‘Agoura versions of fuzz and distortion pedals’ would be great but, as my current platform is a fixed 1 Meg input vs XL allowing me to drop that for fuzz I think it will already be a big step up for me there too.

One idea - it’s already been announced that we’ll be able to record our own guitar into the unit so we can audition sounds (not at launch but soon after). I think there was another thing where there was stem separation of backing tracks? So you can get rid of the lead guitar and have an instant backing track? I *think* I saw that but forgive me if I’m making crap up!

If that is a thing? Maybe you combine those two things - if you did, I wonder if it would it be possible for it to tone match a song tone *using your guitar* to get it there? That would be awesome for cover bands. Not a massive wish from me (I quite like making my own sounds up to a point!) but would be potentially cool.

I didn't know John Cordy hid a brilliant international trade and finance brain under that dorky dad hat. Every time I watch (rather, just start) one of his videos, I like that guy even less.

"Hi, I'm Jonathan Nathan Cordy, and I'm chock full of conjecture and baseless claims I know fuck-all about!"

It's still a click for his metrics 😞

Yes. If you load two or more audio files to a song, it just adds those files as separate tracks. If you load a single audio file to a song, however, the Stadium editor gives you three options:
  • Split Stems—Splits a stereo file into the following tracks/stems: Drums, Bass, Guitar, Vocals, and Other
  • Tempo/Time Signature Analysis—Generates a tempo/time signature map using Time flags
  • Song Section Analysis—Generates Marker flags at obvious song section changes (Verse, Chorus, etc.)
Stem splitting and analysis takes place on Yamaha's servers using their Music Connect service. As with all of these types of services, some tweaking may be required.

If you prefer a different stem-splitting service (say, one that can separate lead guitar from rhythm guitar or lead vocals from background vocals, which Music Connect does not currently do), you can also use Logic, Moises, iZotope RX11, LANDR, Lalal.ai, Fadr, etc. and drag the resultant stems to a new song (up to 8 stereo).

That’s why I’m done with his stuff. Great (albeit boring) player, but otherwise just another baseless opinion on the internet.

I wonder if his factory presets for Stadium will have his name under the preset info tab. He has a dog in both staying in Line 6's good graces (for content/access) and acting as if they're facing crazy unique challenges (for clicks). Either way, he does know how to dial in the Helix reverbs wonderfully.

Steve Sterlacci is walking the same tightrope.

I couldn't give less of a shit about either one of them, because I find them both annoying, and I also know how to dial in modelers myself, and don't need presets. Send me a fucking blank one, for all I care.
