Helix JCM800 2203 Request Thread (FW 3.70 new Brit 2203)!

Are you sure ?
Because the few clips I have heard do not really sound like a Marshall to me
They sound fine to me but I’m not keen on the Jubilee with its own cab (I prefer the T75 or Greenback). Try the classic tubescreamer in front with little to no gain and the (800, at least) sounds to me pretty much like my own 800 did during the 80’s. The Jubilee sounds fine to me that way as well, but I’ve never owned a Silver Jubilee so have no real frame of reference (I don’t judge by clips to be honest). I have no doubt opinions will vary, though. ;)

Based on further experimentation I do think the JCM800 could, at least, be improved. I have been able to get some decent sounds but it takes a lot of tweaking and it really shouldn’t take so much. It sounds to me like the model is perpetually on the edge of feedback - wrong harmonic content? Maybe this model will be improved in an update.

Okay, after reading this thread and some others, I made an account here basically solely to ask for a JCM800 with a bright cap, or really anything that can give that lower gain sound.

So, my previous pedalboard setup was a Quilter SuperBlock US and an Origin Effects RevivalDrive Hot Rod in channels A and B (respectively) of an A/B switcher running into a Cab M+. I initially bought an HX Stomp not for the amp modelling, but mainly to replace the Cab M+, providing a stereo setup along with stereo post FX (reverb, chorus, etc).

But after experimenting a lot with the Fender-ish models on the HX Stomp and doing a lot of A/B testing vs my Quilter (run into the same cab block), I'm pretty confident I can straight up replace the Quilter. Especially since the HX Stomp takes external boosts WAY better than I was lead to believe (running my Plumes into it and playing with a passive humbucker, I can max its Volume and Gain on modes 1 and 3 with no clipping of the Stomp, and mode 2 can be run almost maxed without clipping, or maxed without clipping if I turn the HX Stomp's input pad on... maybe it's my pickups working to my benefit, but it's a far cry from all the "I can't use boosts at all without clipping" posts I was seeing!). I'm trying to make my pedalboard more minimal, so this is great!

So naturally I went to do the same thing with the RevivalDrive. Between the Placator and Brit Trem Brt (+boost) models (the Brit 2204 is really not it for me), I can more or less cover the higher gain sounds. The low end is definitely different, but it's not bad in either case (well, with the master up the Brit Trem Brt's low end is kinda...not to my liking, but that might be accurate). I can also cover the mid-gain and clean sounds with the bright cap cut.

...but wow the Helix can really not do that classic Marshall "kerrang" thing of low to mid gain with the bright cap very well. I mean, messing with it you can kind of get there with the Brit Trem Brt, but so far I haven't been able to really nail the sound. And it's such an iconic sound and it is so strange to have it missing. It's the only thing making me keep the RevivalDrive (which, while very very nice, I'd really rather sell), as it can do that sound pretty well.

As someone extremely new to the Helix platform and to modelers in general (outside of messing with Amplitube years ago, and Line 6 Gearbox before that.. there's a throwback haha), it's really frustrating because I'm sooo close to being able to go all Helix for my pedalboard amp needs. I do have some other amp blocks to check out, so maybe I'll find something closer in the Helix though...

So anyway, while my other request is at least a few standalone power amp blocks (I have a few paragraphs on that topic too haha), a stock JCM800 block would be really great, and I'm going to agree with the sentiment that any modeler should have that. I love and am very happy with the HX Stomp otherwise :)

That's a really, really good first post. Welcome!

Is your Revival the single or double channel version?

Welcome to the party!

Thanks!

Dill pickles or sweet pickles?

I know this is a meme, but both! I eat more dill pickles and spicy pickles, but around the winter holidays sweet pickles are really nostalgic for me, especially with cheese and crackers and mustard. Also, sweet pickled grapes.

That's a really, really good first post. Welcome!

Is your Revival the single or double channel version?

It's the dual channel Hot Rod! Not the one with the extra EQ on the front (which would really be useful tbh as it can be hard to tamp down the highs without giving up the bright cap). I was lucky to get a demo model for a really good price; I think the Hot Rod version of the bigger pedal has been discontinued.
