He takes a swing and he can’t hit!

Since when did Rock n Roll have to pass a psychology sniff test?
Yeah, let's see..., just off the top of my head...

Billy Joe's meltdown- "Oh ONE FUCKING MINUTE! Oh now I got zero minutes!" :rofl
Roger Fisher smashing his guitar and then walking off stage in Heart.
Marilyn Manson kicking John 5.
Joe Perry and Steven Tyler a few times.

The Stooges and Sex Pistols.

For the record, he and Nancy had just split up and she was on stage flirting with her new guy sitting in the front row.
After a few songs he couldn't take it anymore and freaked out.
Rock and Roll baby.

It's one thing to have tension and fighting when bands are in their 20's...whole other thing when you're a legacy act in your 60's. That's just kinda sad.

But it wasn't about tension and fighting in the band. It was about Perry being in bad shape and not being able to hold it together.

Ever had an official, medical attention ultimately required, nervous breakdown?
I'd take a paddle zap while awake rather than going through one of those again!

For the record, I didn't crash and burn and hit rock bottom until I was 58 and living in a van down by the river.

My life has been very crazy...as a child, and as a teenager. And even moreso in my 20s and 30s.

My mental life is much like this....

I understand more than you know. If these were known conditions, of a known addict, safeguards and protocol should have been there from the start...this is a management yes man fail IMHO.

“Mental health issues may not be your fault, but they are your responsibility”

I couldn't disagree more with this.

Spent many a NAMI meeting with my wife talking about this very issue with dozens of other folks in the same boat.

No, I haven't. But given his history of drug/alcohol use, some rumors floating around from the road crew, and reports of bad recent shows, it seems more likely related to substances than a bad night.

There was kind of a similar thing that happened a couple years ago with Dance Gavin Dance, the drummer was wasted and couldn't perform properly, the singer started screaming at him, and things almost fell apart. I think the drum tech ended up taking over at least for the rest of the tour when the drummer went to rehab.

I've been sober for many years now but if I wasn't and had to tour and be around that stuff constantly, it would be a big time struggle. And I don't necessarily blame him as much as just feel sorry for him and the rest of the band. You would hope again 40 years in that was behind you and they could simply enjoy playing live while they still can.

This is speaking on getting someone to acknowledge their mental health issue, not the treatment of it after they acknowledge it. More so, Xavier goes on to say once he changed his approach in getting his brother to acknowledge his mental illness, his brother took responsibility of it, successfully. I don’t know what you’re disagreeing with, the guy’s brother literally did what the quote says.

Biting my tongue really hard here. You don't know me and I don't know you. Let's leave it at that.
I understand where you are coming from, and I too suffer. This was my point...don't focus on the perception of the negative, it isn't there.

No need to bite your tongue. I deal by using humor. I understand this, more than most...is what I should have said. I apologize if I offended or seen as insensitive.

Last point on this. I keep going back to the video of his meltdown and the looks on his face - his eyes.
That wasn't drunk and belligerent or super wasted. More like the dude had the devil in his brain poking his
eyeballs from the inside. Really scary was what I got out of those 5-10 seconds.

Xavier's brother was a success. One of a very small percentage unfortunately.
He had the ridiculous fortune of being a case study during the worst of it by an extremely close brother
who has since been recognized as a world leader and pioneer in the field.

Remember in Silver Linings Playbook how DeNiro kept trying to get Cooper to take his meds and he
wouldn't because he wanted to remain 'clear'? And that was after he'd been released from a mental
hospital?

That's much more the norm.
