Have A Chance On A Bogner 20th Anniversary XTC.

Haha! Exactly! Hence my currently confused state.

I am passing for now. I just can't be a responsible adult and plunk down that
kind of cash on myself during the Holidays----even if self-indulgent gifting
ourselves is a thing adults do these days.

"I will give a gift from me, to me."

I am not that kind of "adult." Yet.
Smart choice, though you may have received a negative mark on your The Gear Forum membership card. ;)

Congrats again on the Tele. She's gorgeous! :chef
Thanks! I contacted its maker and bought some aged spare parts from him - a 3-way switch, neck pickup mounting ring and cover. I also ordered new "nocaster" pickups from Cavalier Pickups to put into it. Both are in the mail so hopefully I get to restore the guitar to greatness over the holidays.

Already own 2.

And really dude, I don’t believe anything anyone says, XTC’s’ need a lot of volume to get the most out of the channels.
It’s a lot of amp, it’s hard to justify it at somepoint if your an at home player
I do like 100 watt amps at low volumes though, actually more then lower watter’s.

Definitely not my first big boy amp, so I kind of know the blessings and curses of
these sorts of things. With the variable power options (half power, Class A, or A/B)
I am pretty sure I could use it---both at home, and with the band. :idk

It's popped on the radar again, hasn't sold, and I am leaning more and more to this
may be meant to be my amp at some point real soon.

We'll see. :beer

I've been thru a lot of tube amps (Tri-Amp mkIII, Shiva, 20th Shiva, Generator 120 mkIII, BE100 Deluxe, Helios, CAZ-45, Dual Rec, Badlander, 20th Ecstasy, etc).

The 20th Ecstasy is my overall favorite.
I like that the Red channel can be dialed-in to be more of an extension of the Blue (higher gain)... rather than sounding totally different.
Great sounds from all three channels, loads of options, and I love the switch

Your descriptions have me wanting a 101B.

That's the Bogner I've been considering.

I need one more hi gain big iron head but can't make up my mind. Something with more compression than my Fryettes for when I'm in the mood.

Bogner?

Custom Audio Amplifiers CAA OD100 SE+?

Hook Captain 34?

Mesa Multi-Watt or some other Mesa?

What did you think of the Generator 120 Ml III? That's on my list too but I've heard they're lacking in bottom end.

Just to refresh. Guy was going to sell the amp to me as he was tired of tirekickers. We
agreed on a price. I asked to wait 3 weeks as I had some funny money coming in to
purchase the amp. Says he can't do it. :facepalm }

Tells me amp is sold and someone is coming from a distance to get it. It's gone. Not
meant to be.

3 weeks later he says the guy bailed on him and it is up for sale again. Well, I wouldn't
have bailed on you, Buddy. WTF??! :hmm

In that 3 weeks I purchased a new guitar, and a few things for the house, and went a
little extra on Christmas presents. I didn't have money to spend on an amp anymore.

Now it has been a month and the amp is just sitting. :brick

I could off a few things, but would lose my ass and I don't have many things I want to
off anyways. So I'll sit here and build up my funds again, and hope the amp is still around
in a couple of weeks.

I know a Fed Ex guy pulling for me. :banana

Is yours the 6L6 or EL34 version, Jim?

Didn't feel it was lacking bottom-end.
Used it with Bogner 4x12 (GB/V30) and MESA Vertical 2x12 (V30s).

To my ears, the G120mk3 has a more modern sound.
The Green channel is the exception. It's a nice vintage Crunch... that (IMO) benefits from an EQ/TS/etc to pull out the bottom end.
My favorite channel is the Purple channel. Probably because it's the most similar to a Modded Marshall... though it's not really copping that.
If anything, the G120mk3 has a somewhat unique voice. That can be a great thing... or not... depending on what you're looking for.
If you're wanting more of a classic tone/vibe, it can get in the ballpark... but that's not it's forte'.
The Red channel gets into SLO territory.

It sounds like you don't have a lot of complaints about the REVV. But I take it that you weren't head over heels in love with it either since I gather you let it go.

I'm considering it based on clips I heard (which I never allow to be the deciding factor) and people saying it sounded generic, which they meant as a criticism but had appeal to me because I'd like to add some mainstream high gain tones to my big iron arsenal. I love my Fryettes but they have a unique voice and I like also having the option of using something that sounds more typical of the genre. The feature set with the Two Notes speaker emulation was also a plus.

My Rivera Knucklehead Reverb gives me a wide variety of gorgeous Fender and Marshall tones and the Fryette Sig:X and Deliverance 120 give me uniquely voiced articulate gain tones that really allow me to express myself with nuances in my playing. I was thinking the G120 Mk III could fit in between the two, providing gain tones that are more compressed than the Rivera and Fryettes and could blend in doing high gain well without standing out in any particular way. Things that might be a deal breaker if it was your only amp would be less of an issue when added to the other amps.

Most reactions to the G120 MkIII seem to be love it or hate it. Yours seems to be more balanced which I appreciate.

I'd say you summed it up well.
I'm into Modded Marshall type tones... which is not really what the G120mk3 does.
The G120mk3 offers a LOT of features and really does sound great.
If you're into more modern high-gain, you should definitely check it out.

I am into more modern high-gain and not really into Marshall type tones modded or stock so that's what led me to consider the REVV in the first place.

I think Marshalls are great for Blues Rock or Classic Rock but I don't play either. When I played with my Brooklyn Hardcore bandmates we were listening to bands like Helmet and Biohazard so these are the tones I'm looking for from an amp like that.
