Has anyone seen the Ulbrick noise reduction system?

How the hell is this thing supposed to work? Is it a ferrite bead or air coil or something? No info that i can find, all looks like MLM pitches

Looks like a tuned antenna that functions like a cheater coil on noiseless pickups, but I'm just guessing.

I installed an Ilitch backplate system in my Strat (works very well)

So, anything to take care of or would that just work with any kind of single coils?
Guess I finally need something like that (would love a Suhr more than anything else, but they're not in my financial league right now).

Other than making sure you chose the correct model relative to the resistance of your pickups and installing, it’s pretty straight forward.

It works with any single coil pickups and can be wired to work with RWRP middle pickups as well.

It’s not cheap, but I have some EMI at home that I haven’t been able to track down and it has virtually eliminated it. It’s not 100%, but acceptable for my needs.

They also make a version similar to the Ulbrick, as well as a model that installs under the pickguard (routing of the body is required).

It serves the same purpose that the second coil in a humbucker serves: to cancel magnetically-induced hum and harmonics thereof. There are two main differences:
1. Unlike the second coil in a humbucker, the coil in this device will not respond to string vibration. It is a "dummy" coil and, as such, will only respond to magnetically-induced hum/noise.
2. The single added coil must cancel differing amounts of hum from every possible pickup combination. It cannot be equally effective for all of them.

You're paying for the knowledge to make it work primarily - the materials aren't much - perhaps the wire, if teflon coated. That stuff gets pricey fast.

This looks like a similar concept to items used in amateur radio to keep stray signal(RF) from coming back on the outer braid of the coax to the radio (not a good thing).

It looks similar to a choke, made of certain number of wraps of wire (usually higher grade) around a toroidal core which has a specific mix of materials (iron, etc) for the frequencies you're looking to supress or choke out. It's a balance, best to know some physics and have the appropriate measuring equipment. The wire used is usually far more expensive than the cores

Why all the puzzlement over this device and how it works? It's not a new idea by any means. Suhr marketed a Strat hum-cancelling system that worked exactly the same, but with provisions to trim the cancellation signal to get the best null. I believe they now only sell it as an option on their guitars.

Ilitch’s marketing (and Ulbrick’s from what I’ve seen) is basically non-existent, so I think there is a large group of players who aren’t even aware of its existence.

From what I remember, Ilitch supplied Suhr with their original hum canceling systems and Suhr now has their own design.

I'm always playing in front of my computer and yes even my humbuckers are noisy, I'm wondering if that would work as well with humbuckers, or is it really only for singe coil 60hz hum

No. It makes SC pickups into humbuckers. If your guitar with humbuckers is noisy, then either the coils in the pickups are not well-matched or the noise is being picked up by something other than the pickups.
