PRS got back to me (much less than 10 days!)

Basically said that a local repair would void the warranty on the electronics, but not other aspects of the guitar and asked me how I wished to proceed

I guess I should probably just go ahead and send it to PRS and hope its not gone for too long

If you've bonded with it quickly I'd send it to them and give them a chance to rectify the problem. Tell you want Paul to sign it though

Yeah I responded to go ahead with the warranty work. If it is a faulty pickup (which seems likely at this point) and that was discovered by a local tech id be out the bench fee plus $225 for a replacement pickup. Not worth the risk. So much for the S2 line being new and improved with USA pickups

my 594 was signed on one of the back plates when I traded for it, my beer belly sweat wore it off pretty quickly though

Don’t request a different guitar for a nothing thing like this particularly if the rest is great. Imagine sending it back and receiving one that has no faults but the guitar is worse for the sake of a nothing fix.
I see this often, people send back an exceptional instrument for a minor issue and the replacement is way worse but no actual fault.

Have only skimmed through the replies so I don't know OP's intentions however if this particular guitar is amazing to you I would just pay a local tech to wire it how you like.

The exchanged guitar might not be as amazing.

I covered mine with the same resin I use for my pedals so it won't wipe off.

Sounds familiar. My BFR Majesty had the backplate signed by John Petrucci which disappeared after about a month of playing.

I think that is the correct choice! As mentioned, ask (or demand) PRSh to sign it for the trouble you are being put through ;~)) And then as mentioned, put some coating over the plate to preserve the siggy.

Been playing it all day, great to have access to all the tones, full bridge humbucker is pretty important to me lol

They did not indicate, that said the pickup height on the bridge was different upon return from where I had set it, so that leads me to believe proVavly the case…
