Friedman Jose Arredondo Signature Amplifier

You're seriously arguing that giving Google $15 per month just to avoid ads on a single site and getting flooded with them everywhere else anyway is better? The ads on all those other sites, plus Google themselves, already track all your usage data AND the wrong ads can even install malware on your computer. Without an ad blocker, almost the entire web is an unusable firehose of memory hog, browser crashing advertisement trash.

Might want to re-calibrate your risk/reward system, friend.

This amp scares me. I thought I had tried enough Marshall, Bogner, EVH, Friedman, Mesa, etc amps to settle upon what might be my end it all amp.

The 50w Friedman Plexi. I had hoped to make it the last amp that I bought. I’ve got the EVH heads, a nice JVM410H JCM800HS and some killer lightly customized Fenders. None of which I plan on nor wish to sell. The Plexi is the last hill I thought I needed to climb. With that as a foundation, I’d hoped to be able to hit all of the other tones pretty well with my pedals.

But dang it, I have always drooled over some of the Jose stuff that I have sampled over too many modelers and I can feel that familiar itch.
TBH, if I was making what I was pre-Covid, I’d just get both. Choppy waters ahead for me I’m afraid.

Dave’s Plexi reminds me of an ancient 1957 Chevy Pickup my Dad bought me while I was in High School… just a perfect F’ing Classic. The Jose model, in my mind, is like a more modern muscle car variant that would sit right next to it nicely in the garage.

Damnit Dave!

Not my tone but whatever floats your music boat for sure!
I don't have first hand experience with a Jose modded Marshall - are they particularly versatile? I was under the impression that amp is effectively the RTL tone in a box, which is why it surprises me that someone would be interested in that amp but turned off by a popular example of what they can do. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

I’ve never played one of these amps in person so I can’t say if they are vertical over all. I have liked the models however. I never likened their sound to RTL, but rather to some of the tones of the shredders in the 80’s. Perhaps I’m the one that is wrong. I assumed the Jose’s were the middle ground between the rawness of Marshall’s and the relative smoothness of Dave’s versions. Best of both worlds type thing? But that is just me guessing based on what I (think) I know and have heard.

If I am wrong whew! The RTL tone is not what I’m looking for and you just saved me a lot of $$$ and heartache.

But I will get that Plexi come hell or high water,,,,

Here's a few clips of my JCM800 I had Dan Gower do some Jose mods to, the typical "3-way" mod with the push-pull master.

Here the first two rounds of the riff are the Jose, first with master in, then pulled (rest is Fractal)

Here with a strat playing Blackmore:

Those sound great @Blix ! Thanks for sharing these very much!

I just did an "ad blocker" scan-surf. It makes your system corruptable, most are owned by nafarious malware and the "free" ones cost money.
Sounds like a great way to lose all your files and have to buy a new computer.

I'm using uBlock origin in Firefox (under macOS) since at least a decade by now. Exactly zero issues.

On the topic of “copying”, if people want to nitpick Jose/Friedman or Soldano/Mesa can’t forget Jim Marshall and his take on the Fender Bassman.

My apologies - this is a misunderstanding on my part. Hetfield had a coveted Jose modded Marshall in the early days, but after doing some double checking RTL was a stock 2203 boosted with a TS-9. Sorry for the detour.

Looks like a cool amp.

No worries EOe! More info as a result.

Yeah, I think I may just sell some gear to pay for it and justify the purchase. I’m thinking about dumping a tone of pedals. I’m going to check if we have an Emporium here….

Might sound like it, but it's not true. I've been using FF w/ adblockers since I first started using computers in the 90's, and never once got any malware or lost files. The laptop I'm on is 7 years old and still runs just as fast as when it was new.

Damn that's some killer tones!

Although I see your point, whenever I hear this, IMO this is a false equivalence statement. Yes, Jim Marshall took apart the Bassman and essentially copied their design, but the reason he did this is that they could not get a Fender Bassman in England at the time. To satisfy the demand he started building them and then ventured into his own designs. If the Bassman's were readily available we may have never had Marshall Amps.

With the other guys, the originals were easily obtainable and the circuits were copied for monetary gain. If you really want to nit-pick, tube amplification was around decades before Fender took a stab at it, so they copied the technology as well.

I have YouTube Premium, it's 15/month. No ads on YT ever and full access to YouTube Music, which is my favorite music streaming service. Well worth it.

Ads have been so bad I had to pull the trigger on YT Premium a couple months ago...honestly it's amazing. I watch so much YT and not having to sit through ads is great.

I completely forgot about YT Music...I just logged in for the first time and from my YT history it seems to have figured out a lot of the music I like lol. I'll have to play around with it more.
