I think Friedmans are good sounding amps, and I’m sure Dave is a swell guy. He’s just a bit of a hypocrite, when he’s slinging shit at Mesa Boogie for copying certain things, when he’s not exactly original either.Regardless of the past I think it is cool Dave is doing this. Beneath all of the Pink Tacos
there's a bona fide good dude in there.

More "inspired by". A Marshall with a Jose mod keeps the Marshall rawness intact, the BE100 is way smoother sounding.

BE is only a few minor tweaks away from a Jose circuit, bearing in mind that there isn’t really a single Jose circuit. Dave probably knows all the different tweaks better than anyone.
Anyone buying a Friedman knows they’re getting a Friedman take on that style circuit, in the same way that no one bought a Dual Rectifier thinking it’s an SLO.

Dave has always been upfront about his BE/HBE designs being his take on the Jose mods. I don't think he ever claimed that his designs were anything but that.

I think Mike's beef is that the SLO was an amp in production and he felt he was undercut by Mesa. Although I disagree with him, because at the end of the day Rectifiers and SLOs sound and work completely different.

Oh for sure. Dave probably gets his fair share of flack too. and I’m sure some of the Mesa talk is down to the hours of frustration trying to repair them, which is surely more of a source of frustration. Soldano was never equipped to mass produce gear to the scale Mesa did, and I’m sure Mike and Dave have probably been consistently busy enough to work however they like to not really need to worry.
Much like the SLO clone kits out there, it doesn’t stop people wanting to own the real thing

Dave built me an amp in 2011 before he had his own products. Amp mods & building rack setups like Bradshaw was all he did.
He did me right in every way and understands Thermionic valve amplifiers as good as anyone his generation.
He's been inside more authentic Arrendondo amps than anyone probably.
Im sure he has no issues successfully achieving what he wants but bring your wallet.
