Machine Learning Power Amp?!

The FB post has no details outside of this being the missing link and for players who care about feel as much as sound. Basically looks like Friedman’s take on the Power Station, but Stereo and I dunno WTF is up with this machine learning power amp stuff, but I’m already giving Dave credit for stepping into the future because if there’s machine learning in that thing it’s most likely not biasing tubes on the fly.

It looks expensive!

I wonder if there are profiles you load/program through the USB to a computer editor, as well as being able to profile/capture your own poweramps?

Wondering how that Synergy logo on the back ties into this?
From the Synergy FB post.

THIS IS BIG!

At NAMM Synergy, in partnership with Brian Wampler and Dave Friedman, in collaboration with Pete Thorn, will debut our new patent protected Machine Learning Power Amp technology.

Please visit the Boutique Amps Distribution booth or the Gear Showcase on Thursday at 3PM where Michael Nielsen and the Synergy engineering team will demonstrate this powerful new technology.

The box looks like it's going to have solid state power, no vents on top and a fairly small chassis. So maybe the Synergy power amp modeling that is used in the BAD preamp pedals, though with a load box worth its salt you would think that the characteristics of the amp being loaded down would come through anyway...

This must have been what Dave was talking about when I gave him shit for saying Ian Thornley sounded like shit because he was playing an AxeFX into 4x12’s, this was Dec ‘23

I should have spotted the lack of tubes earlier. While I’m absolutely interested in this and this is EXACTLY what I was talking about in my post to Friedman, I’m just surprised it doesn’t have tubes. My Power Station is safe, but I can’t wait to hear the chimi on this.

Pure speculation on my part, but I’m not expecting a power amp in there. Based on the reactance knob and Synergy angle here (reactance is part of the power amp sims in the 20IR), my current guess:
  • Reactive load with stereo fx return with dual speaker out/stereo direct out
  • Dual IR loader to go with that stereo I/O
  • Power amp sim tech for perfect pairing with preamps such as a Syn-1. Full direct solution with power amp coloration without having to actually load down a power amp.
I already have reactive load boxes and IR loaders for my full amps, but high quality power amp sims for the Synergy system (or other preamps) would be very cool for desktop use. I use the Synergy 20IR for that purpose today, which is overkill considering it has a real tube power amp onboard.

Edit: I am wrong on the power amp angle. Politoleo at the other joint has some details. A solid state power amp that feels/behaves like a tube amp via power amp profile/modeling/magic.

I quite like my synergy modules through Fryette and KSR power amps, but this sounds interesting.

Yep. It's a load box for a mono amp that adds a stereo effects loop and a stereo power amp.

A stereo load box would be cool. I’ve been fighting the urge to buy a second Suhr RL for a while. When I saw the second set of controls I got excited thinking it might have a dual load.

What’s confusing is why would you want PA sim when using the load? The PA is already baked in.

I guess this could be aimed at doing a little bit of everything. I’m equally confused as intrigued. lol

Ha, I was thinking the same. Though, I am wrong about the power amp it seems. I edited my post to reflect it, but it makes more sense knowing that it will be able to emulate different power amp topologies. I think lol.

Yeah, my interest is certainly piqued if Dave’s putting his name on this. Shit….Jake E Lee played at an Ozzy showed, Ozzy actually died instead of outliving everyone and Friedman put out a solid state power amp. SOMETHIN’ is goin’ on in Hell.

I think you should get the prototype mailed to you tbh.

Wampler and Friedman, with Synergy, in collab with Pete Thorn and a demo coming with Michael Nielsen. That’s quite the lineup on this thing. Can’t wait
