Very curious on the price of this. For once I’m being skeptical out of the gate, but due to my experience with the PS170 or BAM200, I’m not expecting much from this. If it’s the same old Class D with new shit in front of it….meh.

They both supposedly use the same new Synergy ML tech and propriety amp modules. The Wampler version being a compact pedal without the load and only 50 watts per side.

Agreed, the first thing I thought for the Friedman was $1,500, but that a big price for a load box and class d power amp. The AI mojo would need to be immense.
Maybe it’s way cheaper.

With Dave and Pete signing off on this I'd expect it to be a whole lot better than PS170/BAM's, anything else would be a huge bummer!

The bad reputation of class-D is mostly due to consumer grade implementations made to achieve a particular price point and weight rather than the ultimate sound quality. Peak output power ratings are often advertised rather than the rms continuous power output capabilities of the amplifiers. The real design inherent issue with class-D is that badly designed filtering circuitry can allow the switching nose to be in the audible range.

On the one hand, pretty cool. On the other hand -- that winds up being a lot of boxes and weight to...run a digital model of one of the more critical parts of the tube amp you are wanting to use? I get why a lot of people will love using this; I just don't get why that's remotely more appealing than just running a good digital modeler into a good power amp.

I’m hoping so! I figured the power side of things were no different than the preamp side and all it was going to take was someone legitimately INTO it to put the time in and develop it in the same way Cliff did with modeling back in the day.
I think as a result of hearing Dave shit on modeling over the years, I can’t tell if he’s finally at the point of acknowledging “Yes, it can be great if the time is put into it” or if he’s just adapting to the digital world regardless of what he thinks of the actual product. Regardless, I’m stoked to hear it and am definitely hopeful it blows everyone away.
