I'm not quite sure Fractal nailed the bright cap size though, 10pF is an error in my opinion

u know what would help with getting close to ur favorite component sound? a bright cap resistor parameter, where they run a resistor of various strength across the cap legs and it makes the cutoff slope smoother or steeper, i think that's how it works

On the Fractal we can have both.
The Normal model has a large 47nF or 100nF coupling cap, and the Bright model has a small 500pF coupling cap.
I'm not quite sure Fractal nailed the bright cap size though, 10pF is an error in my opinion.

If I could have only one amp... it would be a Vox (just not sure which one).

I love the Fractal Vox lineup, but never quite 'right' to my ears. Always put it down to different models, or no two amps sounding the same. Will be interesting to see where your observations go.

My specific favourite Vox to record is the bright channel of a 60's AC30 dog that I have. A client abandoned it years ago. It is beaten to (near) death. Torn fabric everywhere. Bits of... who knows what... wedged in to stop rattles over the years. But after farting and sputtering for about an hour after being powered on... the chime is sublime.

Around 2006, I always really wanted those high-gain Vox amps they put out. I think they're quite rare now, but from memory they were pretty boss. I'm love the Vox sound, but it doesn't work for my music. Love hearing it though.

I think the rectos are sharing the generic speaker impedance of the vast majority of other models at 16ohm, they are tuned to run on V30s at 8ohm. with no negative feedback they're so sensitive to the load, I just can't get over how much more natural they feel when speaker impedance goes from 1.0 to 0.5, it just feels familiar and cathartic to play reduced. I've played a recto through a 16ohm 1960 cab a few times, it feels like speaker impedance at 1.0, 8ohms feels like 0.5

The Normal channel of the AC30HW has a 220pF bright cap over a 500k pot with a divider limiting resistor of 330k.
The Normal model has a 10pF bright cap.... is that an error? @FractalAudio

In the real amp a 830k pot (500k pot + 330k divider limiter) has a 220pF bright cap over them, then a 1M pot will need a 180pF cap to be equal in sound? If everything is linear.
Also, a 500k/830k (60%) divider which is when volume (gain) on 10 in the real AC30HW, will be equal to about 8.5 on a 1M log pot.

It's not really a "bug". The bright cap is fixed at 220pF and not adjustable in that model. You'll notice that adjusting the Bright Cap parameter has no effect.

I can look into making it adjustable.

Are you really not missing anything from the FM9? Aren't there reverb quality differences, or am I totally misremembering that?

I do quite often think about trading in my Axe III for the FM9. Mainly because overall I prefer a floor unit in scenarios where I want to move kit around from place to place.

There’s no reverb quality differences between the AxeIII and the FM9.

I don't think I would honestly. My ears aren't sensitive enough to pick up every little nuance anymore so I look for directional sounds and usability. I also don't ever load up my presets with enough stuff to encounter any DSP issues.

FM9 form factor works WAY better for me as it's more compact, has integrated switches, and the UI is much more usable facing up than forward. I can dial things in with the unit sitting on a chair and then pop it on the floor to get it out of the way.

Really the only thing I think I'd be missing out on is the bleeding edge beta development stuff.

Yeah that's where my head's at and why I picked up an FM9. I inevitably always come back to Fractal gear. I can dabble in whatever else but I like to keep everything self contained and Fractal tends to have the best overall effects, amps, features, etc.

I had snagged an Axe 3 before the FM3 was announced and enjoyed that despite the form factor. Moved to the FM3 for a while but came back to Axe 3 after downsizing a lot of stuff. Now jumping over to FM9 it feels much less like a compromise than the FM3 which did sacrifice a lot of power, switching, and some functionality. I think the only thing I'm really giving up is the ability to shoot IR's and tone match which I never really use.

I'm a pretty simple person...I generally run all my effects in series and have a single amp and cab. I tend to like one good IR mix for everything. FM9 to me seems like it's more than enough and the form factor is really nice.

I've been looking at new Macs now so I think I'll list my Axe 3 and FC-12 for sale to raise some money for one. Maybe ditch the Fender TMP too...we'll see. Makes more sense than racking up more debt.
