Fractal Talk

Maaaaaaan I wish we had the option of ditching all the IR’s and just adding more DynaCabs. I’m literally using 3 IR’s at this point, one for bass and a couple for the Gilmour tones, but I’d MUCH rather replace them with DynaCabs. That’s been the biggest update for me outside of the original Cygnus update.
This x1000 . The original stupid number of irs was always ridiculous. At the most you want one for each original cab of each modelled amp dyna cabs and space for your own.
An awful lot of things in Axe 3 make so little difference in real world use as to be detrimental to finding the stuff that does. I use about 4 irs and three amps and I am still not happy with the way clean amps feel regardless of what I use to amplify them.

@DrewJD82 has this WEM IR which is Stellar for early Gilmour

Ah! This is why I discarded these TAF WEM: the fizz on the high frequencies makes it unpleasant to play with headphones. They are not so bad on the mix, though. I've recorded a quick&dirty A/B reamp comparison. First one is the 4x12 Basketweave TV + 1x12 IIC+, the second one is the TAF_StarFound.

Regardless of which one is closer to that Gilmour record, I prefer the first one for my personal tones because it has more punch on the mid frequencies, more body, and it is softer on the highs. It is the 1x12 cab that adds character to it. I could spend hours playing with the first, while the second causes more ear fatigue.

[EDIT] I add the guitar solo tracks. The differences are more audible.

True to my ears the 4x12 Basketweave TV + 1x12 IIC+ has more Mid puch for sure

Confirmed this morning that the DynaCab packs indeed work with the VP4 IR loader. I mixed my IR and saved it to my Mac, and imported the .syx file - done. CabLab can’t export directly to VP4 (yet, I imagine they’ll change that if the VP4 is running the same proprietary file convention) but this way is a workaround to that and now I have a Recto DynaCab I can mess with.

Yeah, I've got presets just for recording with headphones (while tracking a DI) just to get around the high end fizz thing when recording. I'm not even sure which recordings I used those on as the main IR I'm seeing in my Gilmour presets now are either DynaCabs or the Starfinder Mix that's a Legacy cab.

(paraphrasing) Cliff said if he removed ir's from the unit, the backlash would be significant.
A lot of the ir's are from vendors like York and ML, so he likely couldn't offer them as a downloadable file.

I wonder how hard it'd be to provide an option for one or the other? Kinda like we already pick between Legacy or DynaCabs, except you pick before loading a FW/cab.syx

I gather the new IR Block is in addition to the existing 4 Blocks ? and doesn't "use-up" one of the existing 4 blocks ie: 3 Blocks + 1 IR Block ?

I also wonder how many more DynaCabs could fit if they lowered the granularity of position control just 10-15%. IMO there’s more granularity than necessary

The whole cab experience in FAS feels like it was designed by an engineer

It might be very time consuming to create a lot of new dynacabs for loading on the units. It's a much smaller subset of the full version.
Plus, with all the free support they provide, dynacabs are their only other revenue stream other than the hardware.

Well Most guitar track have Fizz and sizzle and not much bottom end, its all in how it sounds in the Mix which is always very differnt

Yknow... I am thinking of selling my VP4 and Axe FX III. Again I'm looking at how much I actually use of their capabilities, and how often I use them... and I really don't. Not to the level they deserve.

Actually these days... a volume, wah, delay, and reverb ... seems to be about as much as I need. And So I'm using my Lehle, bb535, Nemesis, and Golden ... and tbh that covers 95% of the tones I need.

The Fractal stuff, as good as it is... just really expensive paperweights for me at the moment.

I totally disagree.

One IR per amp? What if you like SM57 and I like M160 mic? Who gets what they want?

Just because you use only a small selection of what's there is irrelevant because that's for you, not for me or the next guy.

There are many options because each person has their own small subset that make sense for their use case.

You have to look at the bigger picture...
