Yep, modded amps shouldn’t be modeled at all. Further, you shouldn’t be able to switch tone stacks or adjust advanced amp properties not available on a physical amp. It isn’t accurate.

It’s odd that so many years were spent praising the industry leading modeling Cliff has done,. We now know it was inaccurate and so those people were mistaken. Me included.

You're literally the first person to make any of those statements, it's quite a remarkable ability to read one thing and draw totally the wrong conclusion from it on so many occasions.

What would interest me - is this “remastering” of the JVM & JS models just a small step in the right direction, maybe just making them a tiny bit brighter but without upsetting users of the previous models too much, or have all deviations from the actual “standard” amps really been removed?

Cliff’s been very consistent. The amp models based on reference amps are as close as he can make them at the time. If there’s great demand for a “happy accident” model that’s been superseded, he’ll occasional turn it into a FAS model.

Unfortunately this happens
Many times users are upset when amp models are changed as they have set their sounds around that model and are familiar with it
I think the the JVM is a more unique situation though as there was feedback directly from the designer confirming that the production model was different to cliffs amp

Folks who will miss the old JVM model: just change the tonestack to JS410 and it will sound a lot like the older “incorrect” model.

Unless there is a randomizer running that generates random component values to reflect the 20% tolerance components found in most amps, the “accuracy” would only be accurate to an amp with every component measuring its exact value.

In all seriousness, I truly find it amusing.

1) there have been plenty of times where the instance I mentioned occurs (an amp not being changed but some insisting it sounds better)
2) the adjectives people use to attempt to describe improvement in tones always provides me with a chuckle
3) in my opinion, any improvement in FAS modeling is just icing on the cake. A very very large majority of their amp models are spot on to the point I doubt many of us would be able to tell a huge difference

I'm sorry if some took that as hate. It's just interesting to see the placebo effect in the works. It's not FAS specific either. Same thing happened with NDSP updates as well.

I’ve seen people complaining about updates making an amp sound worse when nothing was done that would change anything as well.
